Judges Pete, Benny and Andrew return for the new season.
MasterChef South Africa's adding a Big Brother element to the upcoming new season: behind-the-scenes cams that follow the cheftestants home - to the house they share during the filming of the show.
Season 2 premieres on M-Net this Tuesday (11 June) at 19h30 and will be on twice a week instead of once - on Wednesdays at 19h30 too. You may have seen the promos for it and been wondering what's going on?
The Tuesday episodes cover the usual thang - same as we saw last season - and the Wednesday episodes are going to show the contestants behind-the-scenes, what they get up to after a challenge, how they get along at their commune etc. It's also going to include things like extra master classes and challenges.
So what's happening to the dismal Million Rand Money Drop on Wednesdays at 19h30? It's been ousted and bumped to the dead zone of Sunday nights at 18h00, following in the footsteps of the awful American Idol which plunged to an all-time low this past season.
As I mentioned, the MasterChef prize fiasco's been removed from the format for Season 2, i.e. there are no restaurants on loan as the prize. These are the finalised prizes:
- R400 000 cash for the winner,
- R100 000 for the runner-up,
- A VW Golf 7,
- A 5 night holiday at the Maia Luxury Resort & Spa in the Seychelles for the winner and a partner, including business class airfares and spending money,
- A year’s free shopping at Woolworths valued at R100 000,
- A year’s supply of wine and a full sommelier course from Nederburg.
