Last Tango in Halifax Pic 1

I'd highly recommend ending your Valentine's weekend with the premiere of Last Tango in Halifax. It premieres on BBC Entertainment this Sunday (16 February) at 21h00 and it's a wonderful story about the timelessness of love of what a Great Love means.

It follows Alan and Celia, two widowed retirees in their seventies, who rediscover each other after 60 years. Through Facebook. Unlike Isidingo, the show acknowledges Facebook and uses it as a vehicle to tell a grand love story.

Alan and Celia's grandchildren create Facebook profiles for them and they rediscover their love for each other after they friend-up and start corresponding.

They dated when they were at school, married other people, had families etc. and then, when they find each other on Facebook, they realise that they've never stopped loving each other.

I've seen the full first season and trust me when I tell you that it's delightful and sincere. And very funny. Both of them enter their new relationship with lots of baggage - including their daughters who cause endless troubles in their lives.

Here's more about them from the official description of the show, followed by a trailer:

Celia's daughter Caroline, a career-focused head teacher, is worried that her mum is rushing into things with Alan.

But with her adulterous husband John back on the scene having left his alcoholic mistress Judith, and with relationship issues of her own, she's happy to let things run their course.

Chaotic, independent Gillian works hard on the family farm as well as in the local supermarket. Impetuous in her relationships, she's currently dealing with the advances of her younger lover Paul and the accusations of her brother-in-law Robbie, who's convinced she was involved in the death of her husband.

Neither daughter would ever dream of getting in the way of their parents' happiness. But somehow they just can't help themselves.

PS: there are six episodes in the first season.
