TLC's reality series Celebrity Starter Wives arrives in South Africa in April and it's surrounded by controversy.
The series follows the ex-wives and ex-girlfriends of various schlebs including 50 Cent - who took credit for cancelling the show when it got canned.
The series was cancelled in February last year and 50 Cent took credit for it. This is what he tweeted at the time: “The show was trash, angry ex girls that have a sense of entitlement that cant be met. Come on, I didn’t like it so its off."
According to website
Gossip Cop, 50 Cent wasn't responsible for the canning and it was wishful thinking on his part. For the full story see:
CLAIM: 50 Cent Had TLC’s Starter Wives Confidential Canceled (the show was called Starter Wives Confidential in the US.)
As you'll see, the story says that 50 Cent's ex' Shanequa Tompkins pulled out of the show but the press release says that she's in it. She puts in a brief appearance but that's it.
The website
Vibe has a story about the cancellation which says that Shanequa doesn't appear on the show because she pulled out so abruptly.
The story quotes Monica Taylor (Funkmaster Flex‘s ex) as saying: “It’s no secret Starter Wives Confidential was plagued by legal inquiries and possible lawsuits from the beginning, starting with Shanequa Tompkins being missing from all the episodes, her ex 50 Cent allegedly had an agreement or contract with her of some sort that either prevented or made it difficult for her to partake in the show.”
On her actual blog Monica goes on to say: "I can only imagine there were a lot of people who were afraid what would come out on Starter Wives Confidential and as you saw from the first few episodes, the ladies were NOT holding back!"
Other sources claim that there was nothing sinister going on and that it was cancelled for low ratings. The show was cancelled after the first episode and the rest of the episodes were aired online only. We'll see all of the episodes that were filmed.
Here's a release about it's broadcast on DStv:
