In real life as of I have witness with myself after the rain comes sunshine. We as people tend to have to face an obstacle, deal with it and then wait for whatever comes next. I have been watching Generations these couple of weeks and I am a bit confused. As I write I stand corrected because it is not like I watch it everyday but that day and that.
As I watched I failed not to notice that almost every character has picked him or herself a fight. First, Mzwanele has returned and ganged up with his daughter to take Sibusiso down. At the very same point Mandisa, Dineo and the Dlomo newly revealed son MJ are also planning to take the very same man down.
Then we have Queen versus Zinhle, Zinhle and Choppa, Choppa and his roommate. I can keep counting till the sun comes again. And a number of the above mentioned are those involved in these matters. Some of them are part of them just by existing but are not physically and mentally involved. To mention a couple, Noluntu lives under the Dlomo roof and is a Memela and that makes her one of the people in a very difficult position in the accruing conflicts. Mawande, Priska can also add to the examples.
So now since we all on the same page, here is where my confusion is situated. When I watched the number one watched soapie in South Africa I could not really focus because of these spears being thrown around. Since everyone is working towards a certain goal, what one would argue is what happens after the storm has come and gone. Is everyone going to go back to their regular lives, everyone happy? Is this really doing well for the soapie to use so much conflict at the same time? Wont this lead to the writers having to run out of ideas?
In time to come if this continues we will find ourselves facing a situation like one of the Days of our Lives where we were even showed heaven. Like, really! They ran out of ideas and killed most of their main characters and when new writers came in they had to bring them back by taking us to heaven and fetching them one after the other. I wouldnt love seeing the 20 year old Generations to be at that point where it is pure fiction.
We then just have to keep watching and see how everything turns out and bring the characters time to breathe. Than, on weekdays between 20h00 and 20h30 I shall place myself in front of the television on SABC 1 with my confusion and hopefully I soon will be cleared.
