Who is your favourite housemate in this second week of the BB game? Although there's been little major action in the Big Brother house the contestants have been ogled by us for some time now and you'll have spotted those you like. In fact it's quite possible to have a favourite.
On first impressions Gaetano was my favourite and in week two he definitely still is. For starters he is exceptionally handsome. By this I don't mean a 'babe', a 'hottie' or that type of thing.
It's more … um … I don't know quite how to describe it … um … there's just something so charismatic about his face. It's kinda like he's rooted and solid, and it shows in the way he looks. Interestingly enough he's also one of the older housemates, turning 31 soon.
I think part of Gaetano's appeal is that he has things going on in his head. You can see him assessing situations, others and himself in a lot of what he does. He listens too. He's always very aware of what's going on and tends to maintain an outsider view of things. Like Brian from Survivor 4 he tends to keep some of himself to himself. This doesn't mean he's unemotional - it just means he's more cautious.
He doesn't fling himself around acting on pure and utter impulse. He knows he's in Big Brother, that there is a prize they're working towards, that lots of people are watching, and he's trying to find the balance between sincere yet trying to win the game.
He had a fascinating conversation with Zein on Wednesday. Zein was asking him questions about himself as part of their latest task. He asked Gaetano if he'd ever gotten anyone pregnant and Gaetano said, "Yes. Twice," and carried on cutting out his magazine. Warona exclaimed in surprise and asked if he had children. He calmly said no and kept scissoring the paper.
I found that moment fascinating. He was being blatantly honest and despite being prepared to say it, you could see he wasn't gonna pursue 'going there', kinda assessing what he'd said and deciding he'd revealed enough. He was comfortable revealing what he had but he wasn't gonna give too much more. Interesting, not so?
Zein asked what his sexual fantasy was. Gaetano thought a bit then answered something like: "On a mountain, with lush grass." Of course Zein was disappointed with the answer, as he wanted something much more juicy and proceeded with something like: "Would it be with a threesome?" and Gaetano nodded and kinda said yes but in a very "I've never really thought about it," way.
The funny thing about the whole thing was that I don't for a moment believe the mountain and plush grass is his fantasy, because I don't think he has tons of sexual fantasies in his head. I dunno why - it's just the sense I get. It's like he's slightly naïve to some of the more 'conventional' relationships with sex, if that makes any sense.
He also has a humility about him, although he's very confident. He's able to put himself down in a joking way. He doesn't constantly feel the need to build himself up with the things he says.
He has an excellent sense of humour too. When he was in The Sin Bin, brassing up the brass, he picked up a vase thing, looked at it then said: "R45 for this", and chuckled away.
He was laughing at a series of things here. One: the fact that people actually buy such rubbish and do what with it? Two: the idea that the show's creators had rushed off to purchase the prop for their punishment session scene. Three: they'd left the price on.
So, yeah, for a variety of reasons Gaetano's definitely currently my favourite.
