The Devil In Pastor's Clothing

ernest_angleyNever did I think that anyone could make Ray McCauley look like an angel - but it's happened, because Ernest Angley is way more terrifying than McCauley could ever hope to be.

I had absolutely no idea that such a thing was masquerading as a person on our TV screens until I spotted him in the early hours of Saturday morning while channel hopping. I ended up nearly having a heart attack.

The show's called Ernest Angley Ministries. It's on eTV between 00h00 and 02h00 on Saturday morning and it's the most hectic thing ever. The man has to be the devil - not only because of the *bleep!* he delivers to get people to send him money but also because he's seriously undermining Aids education.

This is what freaked me out with an intensity that makes me wish I could actually just see you directly, because I can't write fast enough to express how I felt when I saw what he's up to!

When I started watching the show had been on for a while. There were four people on the stage singing and a huge audience of people singing along. The billboards on the stage had the name Ernest Angley Ministeries and something along the lines of "USA-Africa".

Because I didn't see the full show I'm not sure which African country it was all happening in - I think it could have been either Swaziland or Tanzania.

Whatever the case it was clear that he's using the Aids pandemic to make as much money as possible, promising people that they and their entire families can be healed of Aids through him.

And now I can kick myself because a little while ago I remember seeing something about a controversial minister going to Namibia and I see Angley's been there too - I'm thinking it has to be him.

I honestly don't know how any country can allow him in - let alone allow him to preach, let alone allow him on TV - because what he's doing is just so wrong. I mean, it's so wrong the only way to remain sane just thinking about it is to laugh hysterically.

This is exactly what I did - especially when it got the end of the show with him in a studio and he thrust his hand forward and said:

"Neighbour, it's time for you to come to the television screen if you can get there. If not just tip your hand toward heaven, because I'm going to pray for you who have death diseases - you who have Aids, Aids virus, untold thousands have been healed through this Jesus ministry.

"The Lord taught me this - medical science hasn't found the cure - but in the meantime God's healing Aids, Aids virus, going and coming, healing whole families and the God of miracles lives and the Lord loves you and nobody's ever loved you like Jesus loves you. Nobody's ever cared for you like Jesus cares.

"Lord I bring those people with death diseases with Aids, Aids virus, cancer, sugar diabetes, heart trouble, leprosy, lung trouble, matters not with you - heal!! - "

This is the point at which I nearly had the heart attack, because it was the most gobsmacking thing ever. It's impossible to explain the full extent of the horror when he said "heal", but trust me when I tell you that it's exactly the way I imagine the devil would be if he existed.

The only thing to top it was right at the very end when he finished by saying:

"Write to me: Ernest Angley, Akron, Ohio 44309 USA. Remember now - send in that offering (mumbo jumbo I can't work out) and let God bless you and he will do it - he will - he promised and he keeps his promises."

Can you believe the audacity?! All this coming after the way he'd just been manipulating thousands was altogether too much to cope with.

As I said, when I tuned in there were loads of people - everyone in the audience was singing, they stopped and then he started preaching with an interpreter by his side.

He looked out into the audience and said things like:

"There is a grandmother here - you have lost three people with Aids, haven't you? You have two grandchildren that you're helping to raise. When you came tonight you brought them in your heart - they both had Aids - they have now been cleansed says the Lord. No more Aids."

The thing is - there was no grandmother anywhere, because unlike the movie Leap Of Faith - where they actually called people up onto stage - he just looked out into the audience in a vague general sort of direction and didn't speak directly to anyone.

It took me a few minutes to work out what he was up to because I couldn't understand what was going on when he first started. I thought he really was focusing on someone and I was finished when I realised that he was just using big broad strokes, describing stereotypes of people in the audience as he expected them to be.

How can such a thing be allowed?! I mean, there wouldn't be thousands of people at his rallies if they didn't believe him, which means there are people who believe that Aids can be cured through him and that sending him money is a wise thing to do.

How can he be allowed to undermine the Aids message in this way? I just don't understand how he can't be arrested for it and I sooo wish Michael Moore would do a job on that face of his because I reckon it would tell the story absolutely as it is.

I've been browsing the Ernest Angley Ministeries website and these are the first words that greet you as you arrive:

"Time is running out; Jesus is coming soon. If you are not a partner in this Jesus World Outreach, become one today and send in your financial help each month."

From there follows what he'll do in return and a report on their most recent outreach in Lesotho and Namibia.

Sooo - what do you think? Is he a devil in pastor's clothing?

Hi,

I just wanted to say that you are soo wrong about Reverend Ernest Angley.  You are so wrong.  I won't write much here because you definitely hate the ministry and as far as you have gone with your speech about the man of God - you may have already blasphemed against the holy spirit without a chance for heaven ever. This scripture describes you in the bible.  Jesus talking here, not Reverend Angley.  Jesus anointed people to lay hands on others using His name and that's what Reverend Angley does and never takes honor or glory for it.  Here are the words that you will hear echoing in your ears if you don't make it to heaven:  The section in bold describes you and what you have done speaking as you have.  If one calls someone a devil and that person has the holy spirit dwelling within, that means you have called the holy ghost a devil and there is a sin that cannot be forgiven and that is the sin - you have called the man of god a devil and the works he does for god.  see what God says about it, about you.

22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

I was GRIEVED at things you said although I just skimmed it - I could not believe you.  You had better repent to God for this grave sin or you will never see heaven.  Hell is horrible - so much so that Jesus bled and died so you would not go there.  The bible says, "Where the worm (the soul) dieth not and the FIRE is never quenched."  Let it be said that if you don't get right and repent for what you have said against the true servant of God, these words I have spoken to you today will repeat in your mind as the endless ages roll in hell - and then you will want to love the true man of God for you will realize that you told lies against him and the holy ghost , but it will be too late, there's no escaping hell once you land there.  God will wipe you from you from his memory to never remember you again - you will be forgotten.&nbs

I share the same sentiments as u Tashi he is definitely using people to get money and sadly it's working for him and his people & followers are so brainwashed coz they are desperate to be Aids free, but mina all I know is that u can pray 20 000 times a day, if u are HIV positive kunjalo kunjalo and Pastor won't make u negative, so lovies check ur CD4 count and stop waiting for some "fake" miracle to happen and start them ARV, Imbizo or whatever will work for ur body.

And as for wena Anonymous usa, Amen Mzalwane and welcome to TVSA!!!!!

I've never trusted these Pastors that come with tents and Hosts big revivals, promising people that they will be healed of all these sicknesses, the blind will see, the deaf will hear and those who cant walk will walk.

If this is true why is it that they leave the countries instead of helping their own poeple.......I am sure there are blind, deaf or disabled  people where ever they come from

@Nonny .... LOL, ukuthi there are two sides of every story and i find it difficult for me speak specically about this Pastor ...have never heard or listened to him ...BUT ..in my experience

Some Pastors(wont mention names) do pray for people with Aid and get cured, i have witnessed that. Some people i knew(they had already came out of the closets and started taking ARV's), A certain Pastor prayed for them and they were cured went to check again several times in different months and they were purely cured ..one of them is now a Pastor. So i dont find my self in a position to uestion or disagree with this Pastor

And i wont start talking about money issue because i real dont know, what i know is that any ministry needs money to keep going and that money must be out of free will from the givers.

Tashi:power to the people,i support you a hundred times my love, for once someone writes some interesting hot stuff!! people must remember that God himself said we must examine the spirits ("niyihlole imimoya...") as such things would happen and he also said there would be false prophets and they will come and claim to be preaching in Gods name(Evil). the very same bible this "pastor"is using says..."there will be uncurable diseases..."so what does that mean to human kind?? it means no one should claim the power to heal Aids but rather encourage the usage of ARV's plz!! so to Anon USA and the Rev: you can curse all you want but all power belongs to God love not you!!! and to amabloggers dont ever be scared of such curses, you have not been given the spirit o fear... ok!

Maybe that is thru maybe not but what i've seen in these Pastors is that they all doing business why do i say that there was a Pastor who said he heals every single desease in earth  all you have to do is go to his Tent and worship God with him and his collegues then unikele ngemali but if unikela ngemali encinci uThixo uzokusikelela kancinci so people believe that and banikela ngemali ezinkulu did that money go to God or in his pocket no it went straight into his pocket suddenly people started praisng him that they r better sick  than before but they were not healed to say i'm fine i no longer have Cancer but the pains was better. Then he disappeared with his name and never cum back seems like he reached his target. So i dnt believe in them i believe in God as Jesus healed people he did'nt do it for money he did'nt ask for umnikelo before u get healed.

And dear i think it will be better if you stop binding all the pastors with the same belt, because it is not all of them who are crooks,, and you real dont wanna question God's healing power now do you?

like in everything in this world, we have people who are called to do their work, those who are certified to do their work and those who do their work on the expense of the other .. i guess it is the same thing with the church.

It wont help anyone to go to the pastors just to test The healing power given to them Without FAITH ....

To all those who need pastors identity or numbers ... i wont give them to you since i have seen that you only want too go test God' ability in them ... so i wont be that kind of a messenger.  Start reading you bibles and praying, everyone was given the authority to lay hands on th sich and cast out any demon .. you just need Faith

@ Preshi...just because I differed with her doesn't mean I don't understand her. Really now ..do we believe there is cure for Aids in the form of pastors!

Eish Nokubonga where do I start? The cure is not in the form of Pastors. Pastors & everyone else who has faith in God can lay their hands (transfer the healing power of God) on the sick & they will get well. How do I know, cause when Jesus ascended to heaven, he delegated His power to his disciples on earth & they went about healing all manner of diseases. Read Mark 16 Vs 15 till end.

Why did my brother die then? He also had AIDS you know? Why didn't Jesus heal him.

2 reasons

1. Even Jesus could not heal certain people due to their UNBELIEF. Did my brother not believe?....that's where the second reason comes in....

2. For everything under the heavens there is a time & a season...A TIME TO BE BORN & A TIME TO DIE (Read: Ecclesiastes)....twas simply his time.

Was it God's will for him to die via AIDS?

God is always Good & God has given us sovereign choice. When you choose the behaviour, you choose the consequences. He got AIDS through his behaviour, however He accepted God's grace in his last days, and God saved his soul (which is more important)

Jesus died for everyone on earth, but not everyone believes in Him, and therefore not everyone has access to His life changing salvation until you believe that He really died for you & me as sinners & "The life I now live I live by the Son of God who gave His life for me"

Of course you will find corn-artists trying to rip off people who have no knowledge of the benefits of salvation in the name of Jesus! It does not nullify God's Word. By His stripes we are still healed. (For more on what those benefits are: Read Psalm 103) e.g people who insist you can buy your miracle of healing.

The name of Jesus is above every other name, AIDS, Stress, Migraines, Cancer etc...they all fall under the name of Jesus!

Fluffy Head
14 May 2008 04:57

Ok my 2 cents on this matter

1. I do believe that God has the power to heal aids... He created the universe and all it inhabitants including human beings, surely Aids is nothing compared to his power. Like the good book says, if you have faith as small as a mustard  seed you shall move mountains_but if you don't take that in the leteral sence, if anyone has faith enough that they'll be healed of Aids_it can surely happen. So I don't doubt for a second that people can be prayed over and get healed.

2. With the same token, I do believe and know that pastors are human beings. They have the same capacity as you and me to sin...They probable are more prone to sin cause the devil is after them, should they sin_that will shame God on a larger scale...So I do understand that the human in any pastor does commit sin. Now doed the fact that he committed sin make God and his power invalid___NOPE.

3. I also do believe, as human as they are that pastors can be tempted to use their gift (healing) as a tool to get financial reward from people...Its that right?? Well I'm not the judge and God is. The good book says we shall all be judged for our sins...user mere mortals and pastors too_all in the same level. So whatever sin a pastor is commiting, if I'm a believer in Christ - that has nothing to do with me...That is the pastors business with God...I am solely concerned with securing my own place in heaven.

So there it is......

Neither Science or Religion or even Traditionalists can produce physical proof pertaining to the cure for HIV/AIDS. The main word everyone here is using is BELIEF.

We all have vast BELIEFS which CANNOT be physically proven in either practice but through individual witnesses they can be substantiated. That’s why crooks thrive and people are cheated out of money. When you mention money and God there will always be controversy and disagreements. So lets all disagree to agree. only God Himself can testify that these "pastors" are genuinely witnesses to His powers. the rest of us can only just believe.

My last post on this topic. Here is something to make you smile, got it from a friend.

What's the difference between people who pray in church and those who pray in casinos? The ones in the casinos are serious.

When John was young he used to pray for a bike, then he realized that God doesn't work that way, so he stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness.

No offense intended.

Shooooo AMEN!!  Best Achiever, Preshii and Nokubonga wow I respect you and support you 100%. If people can go back and reread your replies with clear minds they will probably get what you are saying.

Basically BA was saying there are Pastors who have the power vested in them to cure people with diseases. Well we still have no proof for the cure of AIDS but maybe it's true. Preshii was making apoint that it is not the pastors who heal the sick but God transfers His healing powers through these pastors. Nokubonga was enlightning us(referring to Pastor Ernest and others) about false prophets who use the name of our Lord for false acts.

Anyway as much as our African pastor we cannot just believe what we read. We have never been to these sermons. We have never been that sick, nor had such great FAITH that we realise the power of God's healing on us. We have no idea of what was going on with those who have left us yet they believed so much in our Lord.

My brother was a wonderful, respectful, law- abiding Christian. He was shot in the head in 2000. He survived four brain surgeries and went back to his normal life despite having lost one eye and having to live with epilepsy(fits). He died a year later from an epileptic attack in his sleep( when he had survived the attacks while driving).
I said to my mom it was time we had to let go of him. God did not allow for him to die by the gun, in surgery, from the meningitis attack or in a car accident. He called him in his sleep. It was time for him to go.

My point: It is possible for GOD to heal all diseases, including AIDS through our FAITH. I don't really support Pastor Ernest mission but I don't judge him cos we are just human. Even God tells us to ask Him to protect us from temptation.

one Pastor/con visited our church once and he gave us a beautiful sermon and we all liked and enjoyed it and then when time for umnikelo(offering) came he told people to nikela with what they had at that moment and god (emphasis on the small "g" will bless them by trippling what ever they offered (nikela'd), Tsho!!

you should have seen abazalwani putting their cellphones, handbags, jewellery and other things in the offering busket. and once the service was done the pastor took all the things people gave and left with them....needless to say. none of the things he said/promised happened. tot vandag........as far as i know ukuthi he is the one who preached , does not mean he must take umnikelo with him, he must leave umnikelo ebandleni.

So guys hlolani imimoya....these are the last days false profits are everywhere.

GOD IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE, HEALTH AND ALL THAT IS GOOD. WE HAVE AN ENEMY THAT DESIRES TO DESTROY US, WHOM WE ARE TO RESIST STEADFAST IN OUR FAITH( James4: 7'1 Peter 5:8, 9)

I survived a terrible car crash on the 31/03/2008 with two of my girls. One of our friend died hours later while we were being rescued on the spot. I am still recovering from a broken shoulder and rib. My one friend is on and off with complications following an operation on her stomach which had bursted. This same friend is the one who got out of the car when we had passed out to go get help. Her eyes could not open as they were opened throughout the rolling of the car.
I had detached(backslided) in my FAITH a bit since last year November. When they placed me next to her she said: "My friend it's gonna be fine. Pray, I have been praying". At that moment I had lost it(prayer) all I could say was: "God". She prayed for all of us that God save us and He did.

Why the story? I just wanted to point out that God uses different people at different times for different purposes. I still believe that if my friend was not there we would have all died there and found I don't know when, cos the three of us were trapped in that car. Me and the driver had punctured lungs. Unfortunately for our God-loving, praising and worshipping friend did not make it through. He was alive for 4hours but God called him when the paremedics arrived. It was just his time to go.

And guys please BUCKLE UP all the time because our friend did not have his seatbelt on.
