Plagiarism allegations over Thuntsha Lerole

Thembi Seete and FB of Xigubu are reportedly embroiled in a musical feud featuring hit song Thuntsha Lerole.

It’s a story all too common. It has happened before between DJ Cleo and Arthur Mafokate over Cleo’s Sisi Ng'hamba Nawe and Arthur’s K'sala Abasalayo and now it’s happening all over again allegedly between songress Thembi Seete and FB (dreadlocks lady featured on DJ Ganyani’s Xigubu).

The latest furore is allegedly about Thembi’s Seete’s latest hit single titled Thuntsha Lerole. FB is reportedly alleging Thembi stole her song. Channel O is busy pumping up the single and over the weekend it played so many times such that I had to actually sit down and take note. It is actually a great song and I wish that’s all there was to it. Rumour has it FB is accusing Thembi of stealing the song from her.

FB
FB all glambitious

Upon hearing of this, I immediately asked myself why Thembi would compose/write a Sepedi song whereas she is not Pedi. Meanwhile, FB is a Mopedi lady from Ga-Dikgale outside Polokwane. However, the general practice in the creative industry is that one isn’t confined within their native language as we see with various ads on TV and many other musicians. Having said that, I have not heard any Pedi song by Thembi before. Perhaps that is because I am not a major fan of hers who strictly follows her work. On the other hand, FB seems to be having some sort of a case on this.

Why would FB lie about this and what would she gain from it? Popularity perhaps? But she already has fame with Xigubu nje since it is nominated in the Best Hit Single at the 13th Metro FM Music Awards set to take place at the Durban ICC on 1 March.

Thembi's last album was many moons ago

On the other hand, you have Thembi, whom Swhashi has been protesting against demanding her beau Bobo of Denim allow her a chance to record another studio album. Thembi has been quiet for more than six years on the album front and suddenly she makes a major comeback, with a Sepedi hit nogal. Is this too much of a coincidence?

Watch the music video

A couple of people are actually saying the song could not be Thembi’s especially because of how she pronounces the Pedi words, she does the pronunciation in the same fashion FB does her pronunciation.

FB 2
FB in Xigubu music video

We have seen it on soapies like Rhythm City where small guys get ripped off their hard work just because they are unknown. Record companies would give the unknown guys small compensation buying their silence. We have recently seen it on Isibaya with Jabu trying to revive his non-existant music career by ripping off an unknown small village boy of his hit single. Is this a case of art imitating life or life imitating art? You be the judge!

And, uhm, what are your thoughts on theThembi Seete and FB matter? Do you smell a rat or this is just simply an attention seeking stunt by FB at Thembi’s expense? Le teng, is Thembi still relevant? I see red!

Haven't heard the song yet!!! FB is a wonderful girl with great personality and lot of hard work as far as I can tell! As much as I Love Thembi, not her music, my instincts tell me she really took FB for a ride on this one, she been doin this for so long trying with all she has to be Queen in the music industry and people do crazy things when they can't get what they want! Any why FB is so flippin skinny? Where are the spejeje?

Can we actually have facts before passing judgment??? What usually happens is that artists record a song, and end up not using it. If the producer (assuming that they wrote and produced the song) sees it fit to give the song to another artist, they have every right to do so. They own the master and the publishing. Also, Thembi doesn't have to be a Pedi to sing Pedi songs. If she sings in French, are we gonna say she stole the damn song? No. Someone else would have written it. Simple as that. For all that we know, if she did in fact 'steal' the song, FB might have not written it herself naye self. Thembi doesn't have the backing of a BIG record company. So chances that she bullied FB are very slim. Thembi's had a good reputation thus far, and no matter how much people may write her off, she's a force to be reckoned with. That album, Makisto, that was released moons ago (5 years to be exact) sold gold. SO while you may not be a fan, don't assume that she's not capable, or that the rest of the people aren't fans.

Xolisalife, would you kindly please share who else Thembi Seete has done this to.

LemonTwist, I did not draw any conclusions. If you read the entire article and not the first two paragraphs, you will see that I am critical of both Thembi and Fb and that I actually question the legitimacy of FB's allegations. I never said Thembi stole the song hey. The previous Thembi album was released in 2008 so it is over six years man. Let's do the maths here 2009 (1) 2010 (2) 2011 (3) 2012 (4) 2013 (5) 2014 (6)

Pastry you can now watch the song, I have added the music video here.

lol at Metsetserepa. lol you smell a rat, nna I see red

Many artist have gone missing for years and came back with hits. So maybe Thembi decide to release a pedi song just like FB was feature in a Tsonga so sings she was feature in a Tsonga song does that mean when was not worthy to be part of a hit song? If your answer is no then there's nothing wrong with Thembi singing a pedi hit song. Period.

FB needs to pull herself towards herself and release her version of the track I mean Arthur & Cleo did it with Tlhokoloza we will be the judge of the great track. DONE

Lemon Twist you speak so much sense. Makisto, you're being challenged and once again you're handling it the wrong way. Learn to take a challenge in a mature way. Your article is so one sided. You've practically decided to paint Thembi as a thief and you insist everybody should believe that. Your arguments are so baseless. Pedi? Really? Music Is My Life came out in November 2009. Let's do the math... 2010 (1) 2011(2) 2012 (3) 2013 (4) 2014 (5) which makes it just under 5 years old.

Iyooo as for Makisto.  As for painting Thembi hampe so without facts nogal? What does her and Bobo's relationship have to do with her stealing FB's song? and her relevancy? what does that have to do with you? Ae maan

As for me I wont judge anyone, but as I heard the song on Saturday I thot it was the Xigubhu girl but to my surprise it was Thembi. There is similarity in the beats,
