Thembi Seete and FB of Xigubu are reportedly embroiled in a musical feud featuring hit song Thuntsha Lerole.
It’s a story all too common. It has happened before between DJ Cleo and Arthur Mafokate over Cleo’s Sisi Ng'hamba Nawe and Arthur’s K'sala Abasalayo and now it’s happening all over again allegedly between songress Thembi Seete and FB (dreadlocks lady featured on DJ Ganyani’s Xigubu).
Bobo, Thembi and Theo of Boom Shaka at the 2013 Metro FM Music AwardsThe latest furore is allegedly about Thembi’s Seete’s latest hit single titled Thuntsha Lerole. FB is reportedly alleging Thembi stole her song. Channel O is busy pumping up the single and over the weekend it played so many times such that I had to actually sit down and take note. It is actually a great song and I wish that’s all there was to it. Rumour has it FB is accusing Thembi of stealing the song from her.
FB all glambitiousUpon hearing of this, I immediately asked myself why Thembi would compose/write a Sepedi song whereas she is not Pedi. Meanwhile, FB is a Mopedi lady from Ga-Dikgale outside Polokwane. However, the general practice in the creative industry is that one isn’t confined within their native language as we see with various ads on TV and many other musicians. Having said that, I have not heard any Pedi song by Thembi before. Perhaps that is because I am not a major fan of hers who strictly follows her work. On the other hand, FB seems to be having some sort of a case on this.
Why would FB lie about this and what would she gain from it? Popularity perhaps? But she already has fame with Xigubu nje since it is nominated in the Best Hit Single at the 13th Metro FM Music Awards set to take place at the Durban ICC on 1 March.
Thembi's last album was many moons agoOn the other hand, you have Thembi, whom Swhashi has been protesting against demanding her beau Bobo of Denim allow her a chance to record another studio album. Thembi has been quiet for more than six years on the album front and suddenly she makes a major comeback, with a Sepedi hit nogal. Is this too much of a coincidence?
Watch the music videoA couple of people are actually saying the song could not be Thembi’s especially because of how she pronounces the Pedi words, she does the pronunciation in the same fashion FB does her pronunciation.
FB in Xigubu music videoWe have seen it on soapies like Rhythm City where small guys get ripped off their hard work just because they are unknown. Record companies would give the unknown guys small compensation buying their silence. We have recently seen it on Isibaya with Jabu trying to revive his non-existant music career by ripping off an unknown small village boy of his hit single. Is this a case of art imitating life or life imitating art? You be the judge!
And, uhm, what are your thoughts on theThembi Seete and FB matter? Do you smell a rat or this is just simply an attention seeking stunt by FB at Thembi’s expense? Le teng, is Thembi still relevant? I see red!
