The very first article on Monday World for 2011. Compliments y'all. Let's all start the year on a clean slate and hope we learnt lessons from last year's successes and failures. It is crucial to build on what you have and let's look at what is happening on our screens and see where they are lacking and where they are excelling. Lessons learnt, failures, successes and building on what they have.
Gossip Queen takes the lead in top show listings
The Number One Show, yes, top show for 2010 (according to TV critique Blaqueboi), is Headlines presented by the b*tch herself, Nomakula Roberts. This is a show I never miss. I just love this show and everything about it. I wouldn't change anything about it for 2011. Keep it up Kuli! It's two thousand and elevation after all!
Lemme smile before Oprah comes back
Noleen Maholwana-Sangqu's 3 Talk is all smiles, for now that is as SABC 3 is trying to strike a deal with The Oprah Winfrey Show as Oprah is now off screen in South Africa. The Noleen show is now showing on the Oprah slot and it is getting as little ARs as possible. Last week I watched and Noleen was talking to Jacko's dad and the interview style was so bring lol. It just goes to show, 3 Talk is dead and something must be done to resurrect it from the grave, just because it is 2011.
Please President, hehehehe, why are you not paying healthcare workers my honourable President?
Yesterday I watched Asikhuleme for the very first time is 15 months and some dude was interviewing the President of the country. There were no tough questions asked. It is very wrong that the producers of the show say Asikhulume is a current affairs show because it isn't, it is government communication. i.e the President said we must do our best to retain our doctors and nurses and the interviewer said, and provide them with good salaries too hey.
I would have preferred to hear some probing question about how the government intends to do that because it under pays our healthcare workers? Presidential interviews are for Nikiwe Bikitsha lol. In 2011, I say down with Asikhulume down, I will continue not to watch, yesterday I only tortured myself because it was a presidential interview.
Pulling no punches and No Fear No Favour scares the Presidency big time
Talking about Nikiwe Bikitsha, this is one woman who execute her duties very well so much so the President is afraid of her. Yes bloggers, you heard right, President Jacob Zuma is scared of Nikiwe. The ANC approached the E News Channel to do an interview with the Pres at the ANC's 99 birthday celebration and when the Presidency heard Nikiwe will be conducting the interview, the President cancelled the appointmenta few minutes to the show's recording. Is that timidity on being probed I see or what?
The reason? Nikiwe grilled JZ at the party's 98 celebration last year about a number of issues including the Menzi Simelane's appointment as the head of public presecutions, according to an article in the Sunday Times. "For me, it is about holding those in power accountable for all their actions," Nikiwe told the Destiny magazine in 2010 during a cover interview in which she featured alongside Debora Patta. For 2011, I say, you go Niki. Show the ANC shenanigans that they shall not get the SABC's government communication on the E News Channel lol. Big Ups to E News' Head of News Ben Said for not giving the Presidency a different interviewer as they requested. No Fear, No Favour! Even for the President lol.
Generubbish repeating stories the best way they know how!
With Connie Furgeson' absence on local soapie Generubish, the soapie is really suffering from amnesia and their storylines are set to become even boring in 2011. Just for starters, Khethiwe stabbed Dumisane on New Year's Eve. Doesn't anyone on the storyline department remember that Bridgett stabbed Khethiwe on 2008 New Years' Eve. But Makisto isn't complaining because, (repeat after me) over 5 million viewers who tune in to watch Gerepition are used to getting served the same stories time and over again. Does anyone remember how many babies Karabo lost and how many relationships of hers failed? For 2011, I am watching Gerepition only once in a while.
Isidingo needs a marketing manager like as in yesterday.
Meanwhile, local soapie Isidingo continues to give us great stories but I am concerned as the people watching don't reach the 1 million mark. Has Isidingo ever heard of marketing? It's unlikely! For 2011, the show must do some serious marketing. They have Cherel now, so that must work in their favour! It's two thousand and elevation. Isidingo, it's time to elevate your ARs, good writers, actors and directors alone isn't good enough. I do have a number of ideas for you guys and I can chrage you for them.
Spha's sugar mama
Well done to Muvhango for dropping its uptight attitude, as Rythmic Elements say, Mr Uptight wa re bora. At least there is some scandolous story looming in the form of Spha and Vuyiswa.Did the two just have some kind of a kiss? Makisto hears there is more coming as the show rid itself of its uptighness. It remains to be seen whether mature viewers will complain or stop watching lol. I say, change is good and can the show drop the whole Meme and Thandaza men enemity already? Give us something new please!
Listening to criticism and acting on it
E TV music show Club 808 seems to have improved after Makisto critiqued the show soon after it started. I am happy to report that it is unquestionable that everyone involved with the show read
this article I wrote whereby I gave them pointers. I am also happy to report that the article was republished on local music and lifestyle website momix,
you can check the article on Momix here. At least some people will learn something about plagiarism.
Dismissing criticism
I give up on Live because Sizwe Dlomo fails to improve things lol. For 2011, may Club 808 grow even bigger while we wish Live suffers even more because they don't listen to viewers.
Happy 2011 viewing y'all!
