In a tight unpredictable finale, Musa Sikwene emerged victorious after a titanic battle. The Witbanker reigned supreme after a close run with fellow Mpumalanga singer Brenden.
It was the closest run to the finish line between two Mpumalanga lads in last night’s Idols finale. In the most unpredictable final in Idols history Musa Sukwene from Witbank snatched the 1.2 million rand prize pack which includes a recording deal with music giant Universal.
Graskoper Brenden Ledwaba went head-to-head with Musa after beating thousands of hopefuls who auditioned earlier this year. Musa whose popularity grew gradually during the competition shut all the stereotypes of a “typical Idol” following media criticism on his “look” against Brenden who was an early favourite heartthrob to many and “fit” for the Idols crown, proving yet again that Idols is about the singing.
Post the big announcement Musa belted his single “I still feel it” which borders elements of R&B and Soul after a confetti shower and was joined by the Top 9 hopefuls who did a great job entertaining the crowd in the finale. Bum-shorts as they call them, took centre stage.
The disappointment in Brenden’s face after the announcement almost broke my aorta. Clearly the young chap did not take the fall well. ADVICE: Lloyd Cele, Gail Mabalane and Nolly Meje did not win Idols, look where they are now. Grab that 2nd place spot and RUN with it…doors are unlocked now, you just need to push them open.
Musa’s fans outdid themselves by voting tirelessly throughout and making sure their king finally gets the throne. The voting margin must have been very thin. And well done to King Musa. Now we wait to see what he can deliver as our Idol. He has proven himself as an undefeated vocal beast!
Did you vote? Are you happy about the results? Would you have had it any other way?
