Miss SA - Racial Tiara Switch

*Please note that this is an opinion piece and it isn’t written to scratch anyone’s decision with open-minded claws but simply to air views on the pageant and it’s series of winners.* READ WITH AN OPEN-MIND.

So while the clouds are still thick in the air with the Miss SA fever, I have taken it upon myself to vent and hang my gripes about this once unpredictably exciting pageant turned politically correct ring of a tiara scuffle.

I have dug the net and found the previous title holders sorted in the years of their victory for the past 10 years… These girls are all beautiful and most of them have done exceptionally well in international pageants.

Cindy Nell - Miss SA 2002 [Oh she is a white beautiful queen]

Joan Ramokgoshi - Miss SA 2003 [Oh, she is a beautiful black girl]

We have over the years gaped on a bundle of skinny beauties from all over Mzansi go head to head for South Africa’s most elegant prestigious crown, but lately this has turned into a long chainy trend of a predictable snore.

Claudia Henkel - Miss SA 2004 [Oh, A beautiful tall white blonde queen]

Nokuthula SIthole - Miss SA 2005 [Oh, this time a beautiful black queen]

The title has rotated monotonously from a blonde hair to a black weave, ofcourse with coloreds and Indians thrown in the mix, but I personally think the title victor’s racial background is marinaded and cooked way before the staging.

Megan Coleman - Miss SA 2006 [Oh, now a gorgeous white girl]

Tansey Coetze - Miss SA 2007 [aaaah, a beautiful coloured girl wins]

I am not in any way against previous winners or racist, so before you start impregnating your ciber-guns with bullets to shoot me, I am just curious as to why the title racially interchanges every year. Can’t we have a Zodwa succeeding Bokang and Palesa succeeding Zodwa? Uhhmmm yeah! Moving on....

Tatum Keshwar - Miss SA 2008 [Oh,a beautiful and stunning tall Indian Queen]

Nicole Flint - Miss SA 2009 [Oh, now a pretty white young woman]

Bokang Montjane - Miss SA 2010 [Oh oh, now a black beautiful queen]

Black girls should run for next year’s title as they stand more chances or winning, or will it be an Indian beauty or colored?

Melinda Bam - Miss SA 2011 [BANG! a beautiful Melinda BAM]

Now all eyes are on Melinda Bam who nabbed the crown (which seems to grow smaller and smaller with years) on Sunday evening. Read up more on all the action that transpired in the Miss SA 2011 article brought to you by Toody here.

What's up with all the disclaimers? Kante throughout the year whose opinion was it? Or are we, bloggers on auto-attack this time of the year? Hehehe... Just asking.

You are so correct. I knew from last year that this year's winner was going to be white. Hence my guess was between Charlene & Melinda taking the crown. I didn't even look at the black chicks. I'm just being honest.

Not to take anything away from Bokang, but even Mandla Mandela's presence at Miss World and the whole SA honourary moment seemed to have played a part in SA being in the top 5. I could be wrong.

Remember when the pageant was yanked off SABC, there was a polical movement criticising the pageant for always making whites the ultimate winners. Then this predictable Mickey mouse business began.

Some1 said it's a pure coincidence. Yeah sure! It's also a coincidence that Shabir Shaik is sitting at a Durban beach instead of being in jail. What a coincidence!

Just a question: Why do the prizes keep deteriorating each year? In 2007 Tansey won a Range Rover or was it land, but thereafter no car has matched or outdone it. The rest of the prizes seem to be exactly the same as 10 years ago. And the crown... Yep, it has shrunk dramatically. Hihihi...

hahaha @ the shrunk crown!

Of the 12 girls, Melinda deserved it..but i  thought there were more beautiful BLACK gals during the elimination rounds who were booted...obviously to make a free way for a white gal..and the judges put four black gals in the top 12 who in my opinion offered nothing in terms of looks...

Name here

Shrinking crown is called "the recession crown" and that goes perfectly with "the recession prizes".

I think it's only fair. I'm sure you would be complaining if they did as you say anyway. We are a racially diverse country and every race wants to be represented. I actually think it's a good idea.

I must say 'black' (incl indians, coloureds) girls stand a better chance (because of the stereotype, I assume) at Miss World than their white counterparts when it comes to which country you representing. And them being 'black' (now excl of coloureds) and representing Africa makes sense to those who make decisions.

What's up with all the disclaimers?

Pru, that disclaimer is for people who will come here armed for attack!

i think the next winner will be wearing just a band on her head...

Somehow when I saw Ms Bam, I knew she would win. It was a clear one for this year

You couldn't have said it any better Tazteeq...this has been the trend throughout the years. And if you check the first and second princesses....if a black girl wins then you will have a white girl with a coloured / an Indian girl as the princesses. If a white girl wins then it's vice verse. If this was not cooked then Sian and Rolene who were in the top 5 would have been in the top 3.

but what are they saying with this year's beauties,,, so the prettiest in SA are white, then comes Indian, black will always be at the bottom with everything???? lol

ngiyadlala,, but it doesnt sit well with me!

I dont think ther was a need to make Thuli top 3 just to satisfy their BEE what what!!!!

This pageant is sooo predictable dunno why people even waste time with this though really. This has lost its taste a very long time ago.

What surprises me is why do black girls enter the thing when its obvious its going to be a white person winning the competition visa versa. You see next year we know the winner is going to be black but white folk will enter. Why? coz they think a miracle is gonna happen and they'll be the first to break the trend? come on really now.

Otherwise congrats to Melinda Bam. the prizes really keep on shrinking too like the crown.
