So I did say mos that I am going to go to the Diamond in the Ruff auditions right? So yah I was not joking I went on the Cape Town auditions last week Wednesday. I got so lost I wanted to turn back but I decided: no lemme go just to see what happens.
The crew of the show doing their thing
I went mainly because of their advertisement that seemed like they don’t have many requirements for people to audition - and just to see what was going to happen and for the experience.
So after I got lost I finally found the place. I think I got there at about 14:30pm. When I arrived there was no queue, only people waiting on the street to show people where the auditions were taking place. What I don’t understand is why they were held at such a difficult place to find.
The presenter of the show with Lerato Moloi
They said the auditions will take place at 5 Weelgemend Street, Gardens - the suburb in Cape Town. It was not easy at all for people to find and the auditions happened at a guest house - not a public place that's easy to find like a centre or hall. So it was a mission shem to get to there.
The people who were waiting on the street told myself and another girl who arrived just after I got there that the auditions are no longer taking place at 5 Weelgemend Street. They have been moved to another guesthouse that's bigger than the initial venue. I was like: "what?" Hayike I can just leave but they told us there will be a transport to take us there. We waited a bit then we went to the next venue.
Lerato Moloi was happy to take pics with everyone. She's a nice person shem...
When we got to the new venue there was no queue, just other girls who were sitting outside after their auditions. We asked them where must we go in. They showed us. We went in and asked another mlungu woman: “What must we do? We are here for auditions?” She told us to wait outside. We waited.
She came out with some stick with a black thingie tied on it. She measured us using the stick. She started with me and told me: “No you’re too short you can’t audition,” she left me puzzled thinking: "So I’m really not gonna audition? This woman must be joking." She did the same with the girl I was with and told her the same story.
The two on the left didn't even get a chance to see the judges coz they're short. Cheesa in the middle..
We were so shocked like huh??? We came all the way and got so lost to be told we are too short! I asked the woman: "What if I wear my heels?" - coz I had them in the bag. She told me: “No you must be 1.7 cm tall without your heels.” I asked: “But why?” She said: “It’s because you won’t fit into the designer’s clothes.”
The girl I was with begged, telling the woman that the height thing is not in the advert and the woman told us: “The agent told me to do this. I am just helping here.”
They told the girl on the right, she looks older than the age limit and her jewelry is not right :(
So that was it for us. We sat with the girls that had been there since the morning. I asked them what happened with them. Some of them were rejected because they look older than their age and another was rejected because she looks older than the age limit and they told her that her jewelry wasn't right.
The girls said some girls left crying after they got rejected because of their height. Another girl said that she managed to go inside to see the judges but they told her she her looks older than 18 which is her age, tjo!
She was told she looks older than her age, 18... but she managed to get the presenter's digits hayi shem she was totally taken by the dude and I wondered... O_o
I asked what happened when they were inside. They said the judges asked them questions and told them to walk up and down the stage and then they decided whether it was a "no" or "yes". Another girl was told to wait outside, they would tell her the verdict later.
I asked them if Lerato Moloi, Noni Gasa and Simphiwe Mpye were there. Phela I wanted to see Simphiwe Mpye more than anything, the brother is hot bathong. They said only Lerato Moloi is there and she is not the judge. She was only observing what was happening.
They told her to wait for the verdict, I wonder if they took her...
Hayi ke thina who didn’t get a chance to even go inside we spent the time taking pictures with everyone. The presenter of the show is another guy (dunno his name) apparently he's also on Rhythm City as Crisis - who's working with Thula etc etc etc. When I saw him I thought" "Yazi I have seen this guy somewhere," but didn’t know where - my sis told me he acts on Rhythm City.
I also saw the woman who is in the Tastic rice ad. The one who cooks another brand of rice and her family runs to next door? Yah that one - she's also one of the judges. I wont lie shem I was surprised that she is the judge. Like why is she the judge? Will wait for the show maybe they will explain it.
In the dress is the woman who told me I can't take a pic of the judge * @_@ rme *
I asked to take a picture of her - I think she'd come from lunch or something. She asked “Why”? I told her I just want a picture of her coz she is one of the judges. She refused kwaphela and this other woman - I don’t know whether she was her assistant or what - also told me with some attitude that: “No, no the judges do not take pictures” I was left a bit confused as to why?
So in all what I figured is that these people are not going according to their advert. They mislead people with the advert. They do have a certain look that they looking for even though they didn’t make it clear in their ad. In the advert they made it seem like they don’t have the “typical model” requirements.
They made it seem like they just want any normal girl who wants to be a model. Kanti when you go to the auditions it’s a different story. I’m sure many people who are not the typical model type have gone thinking they stand a chance to be taken kanti nope!
I wouldn’t have even set my foot there if I knew about the height thing knowing that I am short. Maybe they did this to get a high number of people coming for auditions I dunno …
