On this last day of women’s month let us acknowledge women who are making it in the music industry. There are few women in this industry as it is also one of those men dominated industries.
We love listening to their beautiful music that gets us dancing and singing along to their tunes. They are inspiring to those who want to get into this industry and their music is uplifting to others. Without making it long lets take a look at some of them.
Thandiswa Mazwai
She is back in the cowntry. She was in London and traveling to other countries. She recently performed at the razzmattaz awards. I loved her performance.
When Thandiswa performs she always gets people to listen to her. I would love to see her live. She has won many awards with her group, Bongo Maffin as well as a solo artist.
Her first album Zabalaza got everyone mad with songs like "Indaba kabani", "Nizalwa Ngobani" etc.
We hope her group, Bongo Maffin will work on a new album soon.
Rebecca Malope
I know she deserves an article that is only dedicated to her. Maki will do that for us lol but now let's just throw her in the mix.
She’s been doing it since forever and she is still standing. Sis Ribs has over 30 albums and it doesn’t seem like she is ready to stop releasing. People still love her music like they always did. I wouldn’t be surprised if she releases an album for Christmas.
She has won many awards. I am sure she has over 30 awards too in her house. Every year sis Ribs is nominated for awards and always wins.
Ntokozo Mbambo
She has been part of the popular gospel group Joyous Celebrations for years now. She started singing with the group when she was only 15 years old. Now she is married with her band mate, Nqubeko Mbatha.
Ntokozo has a beauifitul voice. She also has a solo album while still working with Joyous Celebrations.
Nomsa Mazwai
She is a new kid in the block. She has won a SAMA already with her first album. I like her songs. Her music is different to that of her sister, Thandiswa Mazwai so we can’t say she’s tryna be her. Her music is a soul type of music.
Zahara
Zahara is also the new kid in the block she is making waves already with her first single Uloliwe and Lengoma that is in Dj Sbu’s new album, Sound Revival.I love those songs and I liked their intro on LIVE last week.
Zahara is definitely going places in this music industry. Her album was released early this week so it should be out in stores. Go out and get it folks!
Bucie Qwiliso
Some say she is the first lady of House music, I dunno you be the judge but Bucie is definitely the best in what she does. We always hear her voice in the beats of Dj Black Coffee.
She also has two albums under her name. We look forward to hear which club banger she is going to bring us this coming festive season hehehe.
Zolani Mahola
She is part of the popular award winning group Freshly Ground. She is the lead singer of the group. Her voice is so melodic especially when she sings her life story song "Nomvula" that touched alot of people's hearts.
She performed the World Cup song Waka Waka with international artist, Sharika during the 2010 soccer World Cup that was held eMzansi. Zolani and her group continue do what they do best. They haven't disappointed their fans.
Nhlanhla Nciza
The stylish Nhlanhla Nciza of the popular award winning afro pop group Mafikizolo has two solo albums under her name. Her first solo album was the best for me. I loved it. She even won Best Styled artist at the Metro FM awards.
Now she and her band mate, Theo Kgisinkwe are working on another Mafikizolo album. I must say I am looking forward to it. I can’t wait hope it will be a hit. I mean we’ve been waiting for years.
Lira
She's a multi-award winning artists. She has won numerous awards. Her first album was much loved by many and her single "Feel Good" was featured in the sound track of the popular American sitcom, Girlfriends. She has performed a lot in other countries too.
No so long ago she released her third album. We are looking forward to get more albums from her.
DJ Cndo
She is the first lady of Afrotainment and the first successful female DJ. She always produces hit albums. She hasn’t disappointed since she started in this game.
She made a way for a lot of girls who want to be DJs to get into this male dominated industry after Cndo showed that you can make it if you’re passionate about it.
She is my number one female DJ I must say. I’m looking forward to her album if she is releasing this year.
DJ Zintle
Zintle is also a House DJ. She even has a DJing school for females. It’s called FUSE. She also released her first album last year which has the hit song Pepe.
She gets people on the dance floor in a lot of events and night clubs across the country. She works with the big dawgzz of Kalawa Jazzme such as Oskido. We are hoping to hear more albums from her.
Unathi Msengane
She is not only a radio DJ but a singer and Idols judge. Her music is soulful. She has released two albums. Her last album is called In Honour. She even won an award for Best Female for it in Metro FM music awards. She even sold more than 20 000 copies for her second album.
Simphiwe Dana
She won many people's hearts with her first single "Ndiredi" which people got to hear in the last season of the old popular drama, Yizo Yizo. The song was in her first album. Since then Simphiwe Dana has been a household name.
She has won many awards too including the SAMAs and Metro FM awards. Her single "ilolo" which is in her recent album is loved by many and getting alot of air play.
Siphokazi
Her first album is certainly her best album to date. The shy Siphokazi got alot of people's attention with her first album. Her popular song Amacala was loved by many and played everywhere. She scooped alot of awards.
We are still waiting for her to release an album that’s close if not over her first album.
Zonke Dikana
At the moment she has a new song called Jik’izinto that is making waves on radio. Many people like it and cant wait to get their hands on her new album. This won’t be her first album as her previous multi-award nominated album Ekhaya was her first.
Zonke is one of the best females in the music industry. She is not only a singer but a songwriter too. She wrote Theo Kgosinkwe’s hit song “Thinking about You”.
She got angry when she discovered she was not credited for it as a writer of that song. But she says she is cool with Theo as that was not his mistake.
Well we can’t mention all them here but we do acknowledge all the women that are making it in the music industry.
They must just keep on doing what they do best and we’ll surely support them. Hope you had a good Women’s month all of you out there.
You can also mention others that you think are making it big in the music industry ;-)
