Ishmiza Fighting the Habit

Written by Cheesa from the blog Cheesa Chat on 04 Jul 2011

We've heard about many artists who were caught on drugs. The latest case of this is Ishmael Morabe who is 39 years old. As some of you might know Ishmael was in rehab fighting his habit of drugs. He says it all in this week’s issue of Drum dated 7 July about how it all happened.

He says he got hooked when he started staying in Johannesburg CBD 5 years ago. He was introduced to drugs by one of his friends at a club. He watched this friend sniffing and he offered him a line.

He says it was not like he was naïve and didn’t know about drugs. He decided to take that one line and he was hooked.

Like many other artists who’ve been on drugs he says after that one line he got that instant confidence and energy. He went to some club and forced his way in.

I remember Brickz telling the same story when they were interviewing him at another programme on SABC1. He even said he would throw money to people. He would just give them R100s.

Ishmael says since then he started using drugs monthly from monthly it went weekly from weekly to daily. He just couldn’t leave without using. He says he has lost a lot of money on drugs and many close friends because of drugs.

He says his habit even ruined his relationship with his American girlfriend, Puff Johnson who has left the country. He says instead of being there for Puff when she was sick he was busy with drugs.

In a week he would spend R2000 on drugs or even R10 000 on a big weekend with his friends. He doesn’t believe that he listened to some of the things people were saying about drugs.

He says initially he was using ecstasy then people told him cocaine is the best even top CEO’s use it because you don’t get a hang over from it.

He says when he was at rehab there was a time he couldn’t take the cravings away and called his dealer but he cancelled.

He says he is glad he didn’t end up like some of his colleagues who died from using drugs, cause accidents, got all kinds of diseases or even end his career because there were times when he would be alone at his place and start sniffing cocaine hard. He could have died.

I can guess the artists he is talking about and drugs did affect those artists' lives hard. What Ishmiza is working on right now is restoring his relationship with his 15-year-old daughter and of cause fighting the habit.

He says he is now afraid about how his parents will take these news. He says his mom is going to beat him.

Well we can only wish him all the best in all this and that he completely fights the habit and do not go back to drugs.

I must say that this Ishmael disclosure about his addiction on drugs didn’t come as a surprise and a shock like it did when other artists like Mandoza, Kabelo etc came out about their addiction.

I think people are now used to the fact that drugs are part of the entertainment industry. I mean in previous years we used to get shocked when an artist comes out and says he/she was using drugs.

Still on this Ishmael issue I remember when Ishmael made a statement during RGB’s first season launch when being interview by Penny Lebyane about drugs. He said “kids mustn’t do drugs they must give them to me” and laughed.

I thought he was just joking but it became a big thing and he had to apologise for saying this. Now I can't help thinking kanti he was really using drugs.

Here are some of the artists who were on drugs but now are clean and fixing their lives.

Kabelo

He’s been clean for years now and he is doing some drugs awareness campaigns. He is even a muruti.

Mandoza

Mandoza is still working on his music career and clearing rumours about him.

Brickz

Brickz has also been clean for two years now I think and he is working on his music career.

Brown Dash

Brown Dash has been quite for years now after he came out about his drug addiction and going to rehab. Brown Dash said on LIVE he has an album coming out. We wish him all the best we miss his hits.

Well if there are other people using drugs out there, please guys yekani ama-drugs.

Tja tja tja, talk about drugs making you do crazy things all round, the crowd must have been happy thinking those R100s were from his heart! lol

i was very shocked when i saw how petite Mandoza was on tv the other day! is somethihng eating him or was it drugs that got him to that shameful state?

Hey Taz about Mandoza I dont hey, he has been denying rumours that he is sick as alot of people has been saying so. I dont think its drugs I mean he was fine and looked good after he quit drugs. He start now being the way he is now. They keep saying its stress and what not. I dont know the real reason why he's so petite.

saw the Brown Dash article on Drum  and he blames stress for his health. the guy went on to say that his wife died of stress. i understand that stress can kill but how come all celebrities are now dying of stress bathong.

Mandoza needs to accept whatever is eating him up and move on with life because if he doesnt accept its going to kill him

i am so happy for Kabelo - he looks very healthy.

Ishmael - i saw him on live - the guy was shaking and he couldnt hold the mike. ao i felt sorry for him but i am glad he asked for help.

i believe that there comes a point in time when everyone no matter how many people have told you how bad your actions are you will wake up and listen to that one person for some its unfortunate as it comes very late for some it comes well in time.

i wish Ishmael all the best during his road to recovery.

Hao stress?? haikhona Brown Dash bathong hayi ngeke yhini! There would have been alot of people in grave yards because of that. I mean many people has stress and those people are still alive sesitheni esi stress.

Mandoza needs to accept whatever is eating him up and move on with life because if he doesnt accept its going to kill him
True this, this is one of the things that kills people they dont wanna accept what they are going through and get help.

i am so happy for Kabelo - he looks very healthy.  But I dont like how thin he is now but he is healthy shem mara he has lost alot of weight. He gyms too much I think .

You remember Zombo of 999 was one of the artists who were caught up on drugs and later admitted it and even said on LIVE that he was sick with AIDS and said his story. After a few days later he passed away. Shame RIP to him.

I hope all these who come out and admit that they have a problem get sorted out, coz sometimes people come to stop umgosi and still carry on behind closed doors. i have a family member who had everything well not everything but he was able to look after himself and the family. Now he is living with his mother at the servants quarters with nothing jus the clothes on his back. He sold everthing, lost his job and his family.

Stress kills yes but not everyone dies from it. if you suffer from a dreaded disease you become stressed and the doctors will tell you about the other disease and stress. So lets all admit it guys, as for me i will tell everyone who asks me that the doctors say i have stress and i will also get help, not waiting for the stress to kill me. Celebrities always want to clarify everything and always shoot themselves on the foot during these interviews. Why not go for the right treatment and leave the journos to do their. I promise you once you are looking well they will write  about you that you are looking well again.

Even a blind man can see Mandoza is HIV+

I don't know why he's embarrassed about it. He's not the first, only nor last celeb to get it.

Yes you are right @pammie, he should just come out with it, our "shame" will be in order.

They keep saying its stress and what not. I dont know the real reason why he's so petite.

@cheesa,
if thats what stress can do to people then i MUTS avoid it at all costs, although i read somewhere that we do need a little stress in our lives once in a while, apparently its good for us!

I can only pray that they have funeral and life covers, these "stressed" celebrities. I do not have a medical qualification, but i'm not stupid either. Mandoza le Brown Dash don't have to come clean about the cause of their stress, it's their constitutional right, mara denying the truth won't make it disappear. In the mean time, i hope beetroot, garlic and african potatoes ke daily bread at their respective households, or secretly nibbling on ARVs otherwise we're going to be singing the kwaito version of "I'm going home" pretty soon.

Lastly, when probed about the death of his wife, Brown Dash should have just said "no comment" instead of blatantly lying to people's faces.

Hai, le nna Im not shocked at all about the relevation. Actually im thinking when willl other celebs come out and admit to their addiction.

Im closely scrutinizing every pic ya Ishmiza to see if i can spot the white powder residue on his nose...lol!.

@pammie25, although some people may argue that its none of our business if a celeb is HIV+ and doesnt wanna go public with their status, i agree with u, for the sake of gossip, they must just come out, admit to it and move on. Its just something else when a celeb denies stuff on the media only to admit to it at a later stage.

pammie25
04 Jul 2011 15:47

exactly Diamondthree

Cause people will go on and on about it. They won't let it rest. If he comes out it will be news for that week then people will move on to the latest gossip and forget about him and his HIV. He's just drawing unneccessary attention to himself by denying it cause haai shame the HIV writing is all over his wall.

OMW Dali is that you *faints*  welcome back home hehehe

coz sometimes people come to stop umgosi and still carry on behind closed doors. True we might be busy saying hayi hayi usbani bani is no longer using drugs kanti he is doing exactly that!

bt no, probably looking 4 sumthing 2 sing bout wen he cums back 4m rehab cz dts probably wt artists do des days. Actually he says he's doing a solo album. They always do this when they come out with these stories of thiers. Look at Kelly.

I can only pray that they have funeral and life covers, these "stressed" celebrities. LMAO at "stressed" celebrities.

Cause people will go on and on about it. true, people wont stop shwashwading until the person actually comes out and say it. Because everyday people will be scrutinizing you searching for symptoms and continue with their speculations

I wonder how "deep" Da Les is in this drug hole, phela Ishmiza and Da Les are BFF's, they are always seen in Jozi Hotspots together...He must be on something too, one day we'll be discussing his story here! LOL Taz after I read this Ishmael article I just thought about DaLes' Topshayela episode and the night clubs they were going into door to door in one night and uncle Ish was there too. Lets hope DaLes aint using too.

i will never forget Khabezela.. the guy said girls will line up for him in a club and it was problems.

Celebs need to take good care of themselves because they are role models. i used to watch Fantasia's reality show and there was a time when she had a breakdown and said that fine she is making a money but she would go back to her old life as it wasnt public.

who will forget Stitch and that handsome cute forme Kaizer Chiefs player - what was his name.........

and i am not liking what i am seeing with Kenneth - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Kenny needs to buy new clothes (small size) coz he is drowning in those suits. Whatever he is hiding its his problem, we are so tired of these celebs always telling lies.

If its drug addiction, they want the world to know but when they are sick they tell funny stories. Its just that when you hear that so n so has been married 3 times and now going for the fourth and has a makhwapheni, they you start having funny ideas when they go on a diet.

@makitso - are you being for real??? I think he looks the part **hides**

On the real though, I think it's too soon for Ishmael to celebrate. I'm not too sure if he'll keep off the stuff.

Look at people like Sechaba, Lundi and many more when it come to abusing substances. Somehow, that nasty wolf comes back to bite...
