Well the
South African Music Awards happened this past weekend at Montecasino in Johannesburg. Some of us watched them on TV like we always do. I must say those were the worst SAMAs I’ve ever watched.
I have been watching the SAMAs like every year but this year they were just poor quality. It was like I am watching the Metro FM awards,
hayikabi. I mean we understand when it’s the Metro FM awards but the SAMAs! They just can’t look like a low budget event.
There was too much chaos as I was watching on the telly. People were moving around all over the place. It was so destracting. There was no order whatsoever. People were too close to the stage, hence we could see all their moving around. I think the venue didn’t do the show any justice.
I mean, not that there was no moving around of people in Sun City, but we, as viewers, wouldn’t see it because people were not too close to the stage. We would only see the moving around of people when the cameras showed the crowd.
The production was not on point too. There were a couple of glitches. We understand it’s a live show but since it’s the SAMAs we expect perfection. I really didn’t enjoy this year’s SAMAs. I couldn’t wait for them to end a thought I’ve never had before when watching the SAMAs. I was really disappointed sheim.
Phat Joe disappointed me too but he did tweet earlier that he was censored so he wasn't able say the things he had prepared to say during the show. So I kind of understand. I thought he was joking when I saw the tweet but it turned out to be true during the show.
The person who made us laugh was Somizi aka Somgaga - when he said Sis Ribs should wear the knee caps he was wearing when performing for when she is crawling on the floor. He even said Chomme should have been nominated for Best Urban Porn. He was really funny.
Then there was a guy called Milton who was supposed to present an International Award with Sis Ribs but Sis Ribs didn’t come up to the stage. So Milton said that he was supposed to present the award with Sis Ribs but she's not there, maybe Somizi did something to her. This was another highlight of the night - people couldn’t stop tweeting about this.
I liked these boys. They are called
Locnville. I don't really know them but I just liked them. I think I have heard their song once or twice. They won Best New Comer and Best Selling album.
Can people who present the Best Selling album award
know that there are no nominees for this award? Like really now, people every year keep making the same mistake.
Last year it was TKzee who said "the nominees for Best Selling award are" and this year it was Danny K. Don't they get told that there are no nominees for this award? I don't understand.
Amu aka The Principal won the Best Rap album award. He was very happy shem. He did say on twitter that he must win this award or else there's gonna be sh!t. So could this mean he bullied his way to get this award? mhmmm... There's his wife on stage too.
On performances, I enjoyed Professa’s performance. Ms Mbau perfomrmed with Professa and crew. That girl can do whatever to be in the spotlight. I liked Loyiso’s performance too. Uche, Ihashi elimhlophe and Vusi Mahlasela’s performance was the best for me. It was a good collaboration.
Zakes Bantwini disappointed me. I think him not taking an award added to his not-so-good performance. It was clear that the brother was disappointed. He didn’t perform as well as we know him.
He was just doing nje. I also felt like he should have won an award - maybe Best Male. I really thought he was going to take that one. I guess next time.
Congrats to the winners!!
So what did you think of the SAMAs?
excuse the quality of them pics as they were taken on tv lol
