Let’s talk about this drama called Intsika that replaced Intersexions on SABC1 Tuesdays at 20:30pm. I have been watching the Xhosa drama since it started three or four weeks ago. I must say it is not one of those dramas that I would beat myself for missing it.
The drama just doesn’t cut it. Its even worse having to watch such a drama after the intriguing Intersextions that had everyone’s tongue wagging. SABC1 didn’t sustain that momentum.
It is said that Intsika is a continuation of the controversial drama called Umthunzi we Ntaba that showed the Xhosa culture of circumcision. Umthunzi we Ntaba followed a boy called Ndonda who was about to go to circumcision school.
Now Ndonda (played by Tazz Nginda) on Intsika is a young man who is climbing the corporate leader. He is settled in Jozi because of work. His parents are still based in the village of Zithuthe.
I can’t really figure it out what is it that doesn’t add up on Intsika. The story is just not interesting and some actors like Fezile Mpela and Lizeka’s mother speak Xhosa terribly even though they are Xhosa. I'm not sure about Fezile Mpela though.
The only storyline that shocks me is the story between Lizeka and her mother who doesn’t want to work, only wants to be supported by men. The mother doesn’t want her daughter to have education too since she doesn’t.
The only thing she wants her daughter, Lizeka to do is find a job to support them since her married boyfriend, Scoop decided to leave her.
There are a lot of familiar faces in the drama such as Lois of Society, Bubu Mazibuko, Sis Dee of Rhythm City and Thabani of Home Affairs is also acting there. Lois and Thabani are acting as husband and wife on Intsika.
To be honest Intsika is boring maybe as time goes on it will reach its boiling point but now I don’t know its direction.
Even the corruption storyline that they are doing has been tackled by Rhythm City. When watching it, it felt like I was watching Rhythm City's Stoan, Johnny and Mr. Tshabalala story.
But shem I must say Tazz Nginda’s acting has improved. I really didn’t like this man’s acting before in other dramas.
So what do you think of Intsika?
