What do you think of Intsika?

Let’s talk about this drama called Intsika that replaced Intersexions on SABC1 Tuesdays at 20:30pm. I have been watching the Xhosa drama since it started three or four weeks ago. I must say it is not one of those dramas that I would beat myself for missing it.

The drama just doesn’t cut it. Its even worse having to watch such a drama after the intriguing Intersextions that had everyone’s tongue wagging. SABC1 didn’t sustain that momentum.

It is said that Intsika is a continuation of the controversial drama called Umthunzi we Ntaba that showed the Xhosa culture of circumcision. Umthunzi we Ntaba followed a boy called Ndonda who was about to go to circumcision school.

Now Ndonda (played by Tazz Nginda) on Intsika is a young man who is climbing the corporate leader. He is settled in Jozi because of work. His parents are still based in the village of Zithuthe.

I can’t really figure it out what is it that doesn’t add up on Intsika. The story is just not interesting and some actors like Fezile Mpela and Lizeka’s mother speak Xhosa terribly even though they are Xhosa. I'm not sure about Fezile Mpela though.

The only storyline that shocks me is the story between Lizeka and her mother who doesn’t want to work, only wants to be supported by men. The mother doesn’t want her daughter to have education too since she doesn’t.

The only thing she wants her daughter, Lizeka to do is find a job to support them since her married boyfriend, Scoop decided to leave her.

There are a lot of familiar faces in the drama such as Lois of Society, Bubu Mazibuko, Sis Dee of Rhythm City and Thabani of Home Affairs is also acting there. Lois and Thabani are acting as husband and wife on Intsika.

To be honest Intsika is boring maybe as time goes on it will reach its boiling point but now I don’t know its direction.

Even the corruption storyline that they are doing has been tackled by Rhythm City. When watching it, it felt like I was watching Rhythm City's Stoan, Johnny and Mr. Tshabalala story.

But shem I must say Tazz Nginda’s acting has improved. I really didn’t like this man’s acting before in other dramas.

So what do you think of Intsika?

its ohk but Fezile Mpela s Xhosa is not so convincing its like he is trying too hard to get the xhosa words right. they should have used a person who is fluent and comfortable speaking xhosa. he s nt doing it for me tu.

This drama is very slow for my me,this Ndoda charator is there to propose others gals or for the traditional ceremony???? he is too slow, not sure if he is there to work or wht corse i heard Chief said "sinayo ingcali apha elalini" he is a CA, but i dont get it striaght, maybe next episode will show me more regarding Ndoda 'S charactor,

Lizeka and her mom, its another story, quite interesting, corse Lizeka's mom is a good actor,so maybe thts why its juicy whn it comes to her lines,

I agree with those who say let's give it a chance 7 that the story line it slow... Mna i enjoy it shemor am i being biased since ndingu mXhosa...

Miss Tyelbooi (Lois) always crack it for me, she is so damn good..Haybo ubhut' Fezile should always stick to his afrikaans storyline tyhini uyasibulala ngoku.. As for umaka Lizeka, she is so cruel, how could she?.. She's ruthless maan sies.

@qaqamba.. u "nqalintloko" kaloku nontombi is a chancer, utsotsi, somebody who is up to no good...

04 May 2011 14:41

Watching Intsika is a crime against humanity. I tried, but haayi the storyline is just on the same level as Generations. I'd rather switch off my TV.

I miss intersexions terribly. I watched a repeat of Heartlines on Monday, and was pleasantly surprised to see that Heartlines are Curious Pictures production. Clearly the guys at CP know their stuff.

04 May 2011 14:58

intsika is a terrible drama. Tazz Ngida can't act to save his life. I agree Fezile shud stick to speaking afrikaans, i cringe when he speaks xhosa. Lizeka's mom uyafana nje no fezile. intsika is just a bad production qha

04 May 2011 15:24

Thanks Cheesa for this article....the drama is boring at the moment, and I am hoping it will improve with time.

The less said about Fezile Mpela's bad Xhosa and sweat the better. I don't think it is fair for those who are fluent in isiXhosa, there are a lot of good Xhosa actors.

Tazz Ngida doesn't cut it for me as a lead actor, maybe as a supporting actor he will do well.

Cheesa
04 May 2011 15:30

04 May 2011 15:35

@Sobzero ,, sana i second u sana big time, regarding Fezile Mpela's lines, but ke these days its all abt connection, maybe Dumisani Shabene, Zolisa Xaluva, were too bzy to play the role, atlist  if they approach Brenda Ngxoli and change the name to NONTOMBI, it will be much better, let me google Tazz  Ngida and  see ba usuka phi??eMdantsane, Pe, but  defntly, he is not from C.T. sana zaange ndambona apha e Kapa,   unless uhlala  kulo Lundi (gospel singer)

I am not gripped. Really poor planning on the part of SABC 1 programming. Intersexion set the bar very high, should have been followed by a totally captivating drama.

Cheesa shem, I think this thing is boring and their hard core Xhosa without throwing English in the mix makes it all more bad. Now, lemme read

hi all this drama is boring kakhulu

vinc
05 May 2011 11:18

Sham utata uMayor is like trying to recite his story line, his tongue gets stuck everytime he says a big Xhosa word, and that sweating and jummping from one bench to another while speaking to the Chief, that was clear ukuthi unetyala or is guilty of something. He reminded me of Animal Farm that pig Squilor jumping from side to side and wagging his tail, trying to convince the animals.

That woman sis Bee wase RC, is mamgobhozi everywhere. Its always nice to see same person but different characters.

The storyline is tired, please give it a refreshing cider

05 May 2011 11:42

I haven't watched it-and I don't think i will. No bias, no tribalism etc. The adverts (before the actual 1st episod) were boring enough. Intersexions was super--educative, real, defined storyline, scarely too, entertaining etc all missing in Ntsika. So don't even compare this to Intersexions, maybe SABC got....u know what people may do to get their shows aired, a lot of things....

INSTIKA!!! I enjoy every moment of it, the story line is perfect for me. to some of you is boring because you dont relate to what the story is about Let me break it down for you. Fezile ngumXhosa and the Xhosa that he is speaking there goes with the charactor that he is play. being a crook that"s what makes him sweaty all the time, Xolane is perfect for the grumpy and useless,he is playing. Lizeka and all the people who are playing there are doing it for me kwaye nesitori siyayondelelana. they must keep it up.

@2SIR - pls sisi/bhuti do not insult our language uFezile uthetha ingathi uyakhutywa and I always feel like throwing a glass or something everytime I see him kwi Intsika. yes he is an accomplished actor and he knows Xhosa but this is a Xhosa dram they should have casted umntu othetha isiXhosa xho. Baninitsi gqhita abantu abathetah isiXhosa and are good actors e.g.Dumisani Mbebe. Iyacaphukisa gqhita lapart yakhe shame and iworse bamnika amagama aquzileyo ufike ekhamisile ngathi ulinde icephe lesidudu.
