As we all know, it’s April - when all radio stations do a shake-up of their line-up.
YFM has done so too but there are not many changes as many of their DJ's are still doing their shows. They have added a few new fresh additions to their family though.
YFM Programming Manager
Tumelo Diaho Monaheng says: “In keeping with YFM’s ongoing commitment to unearthing and developing the hottest new talent, we remain bullish about the fact that we are still the leaders when it comes to discovering the best young radio talent South Africa has to offer.”
He continues: “We are extremely proud of the fact that we do not have to look to other stations to recruit talent.”
They've recruited two new DJ's from campus radio.
Zama Dube, a Wits Law graduate, who hosted her own on show on Voice of Wits, will take over Mpho Maboi’s show in the 10h00 - 12h00 slot.
Bryce ‘DJ Ankle Tap’ Clarke, who is a Communications graduate from UJ, will be doing the 12h00 - 03h00 slot.
Dineo Ranaka continues with her drive time show with her producer, Bujy. She must have taken a deep breath when she saw her contract has been renewed as she seemed like someone who was really under pressure.
With the negative press she's been getting in the past few months some might have thought she wouldn't be coming back. But many fans also vowed they won’t be listening to YFM if she leaves the station so management might have also thought of their loss if they let her go.
Mo Flava, who took over from DJ Sbu last year, also remains in his slot as the breakfast show host.
“It boy” Warras with his “right here, right now” attitude, the ever sassy
Bonang ‘B’ Matheba, hip-hop kings Siz’ n Scoop (Sizwe Dhlomo and Siyabonga Ngwekazi), and the Twinz, all spread across weekends and weekday slots.
Also, look out for current affairs powerhouse Faith Mongope and the rest of the young blood crew: Pearl Modiadie, Linda Mbuso, MaAda and Motso Taje.
Apparently
Tumi Voster is also a YFM DJ. She co-hosts a show with DJ Warras, oh well I didn’t know about this until recently since I’ve been following her on twitter. I thought she was only busy with her My Creations thing - I don't know what it's about.
Good for her that she is back in the limelight. I can’t imagine her on radio though. I have seen her on TV as a Yo-TV’s presenter. I didn’t really feel her yes she is a good presenter but ... dunno what to say. What's she like on radio those who have heard her?
When I heard that Tumi Voster is a DJ at YFM I thought
Minnie Dlamini should also be a YFM DJ after the good feedback she got when she was doing the Juju Drive with Julius Malema on Metro FM.
She is also young, hip and happening and YFM seems to recruit all the hip and happening people in entertainment. Maybe next year we hope.
The only person who's left YFM is Oskido, after being there for 14 years - tjo I didn't know he's been with YFM that long. He has now joined Metro FM. I think that is a good move. He fits there. Siyambongela!
The YFM 2011 programming line up is as follows;
Monday - Friday 03h00 - 06h00 Ma Ada 06:00 – 09:00 –Mo Flava
10:00 - 12:00 – Zama Dube
12:00 - 15:00 – Warras
15:00 - 18:00 – Dineo Ranaka
18:00 - 21:00 - Tholi B (Current Affairs w/ Faith Mangope on Tuesdays)
22:00 - 00:00 - Speciality programming 00h00 – 03h00 – (Bryce Clarke) DJ Ankletap
Saturday - Sunday 06:00 - 09:00 – Motso Taje
09:00 - 12:00 – Siz n Scoop
12:00 - 15:00 – Bonang Matheba
15:00 - 18:00 – Speciality Programming
18:00 - 21:00 – The Twinz
21:00 - 00:00 – Linda Mbuso
00:00 - 03:00 – Pearl 03h00 – 06h00 Cliff
Hehehe, by the way, I didn’t know radio stations also recruit based only on looks and the hype around the person (well that's what I think) until now when I heard a certain DJ will be a DJ at one of the national radio stations.
I mean this guy is too shy in interviews - how much more when he has to do a full 2 hour and a half show? Tjo! But I guess we should give him a chance. I know I will be accused of being a hater, actually I like this DJ too. I also think he is hot like everyone thinks so LOL.
Now that other DJ's have been chopped out of these radio stations, what do they do?
Do they become unemployed and search for another radio slot or do they wait for next April to see if they are going to be approached by other radio stations? Because it's clear now that days of submitting a demo are over - people just get hand-picked from other radio stations or somewhere. Shem I feel sorry for the likes of Leko who left Igagasi for Metro FM now he’s out.
