It’s that time of the year! Festive is around the corner and our artists are releasing their new albums left, right and center. They are all fighting for your cash. We have heard their singles on radio and saw them perform in television programmes showing us what they have to offer this festive season. We as the buyers do not like buying albums that only have one hit song because that’s a waste of our cash. So our artists always assure us that their albums are a must have. We won’t regret buying their albums. Their albums are full of hits that will get you dancing through out the festive season etc.
There are already noise about some songs that are playing on radio and people are already predicting a song that is going to “nqamula unyaka” meaning a song that is going to be playing at 00:00 midnight on the 31st of December. We know any artist would love to know their song is going to be playing at that time. So with all these new albums on shelves, which ones are you going to make a budget for? Or maybe there are some that you have bought already. Do share with us what you think of the album. Is it a must have or it’s just a waste of money.
Dj Kent
He is an award winning Dj. He won a SAMA for his album in 2008. He is popular for his radio mixes. He has this new album, I Cant Survive. His track “Let’s Fall In Love” is playing in every radio station and it is nominated for Best Single of the Year at Metro FM Awards. He is also nominated for Best Produced Album, Best Collaboration and Best Dance Album.
Lulo Café
His album “What About Soul” has been nominated for Best Compilation Album at Metro FM Awards. His hit single “I Wanna Love You” featuring Nothede is making waves on radio. People are loving it. I must say this year look like it has been a good year for Lulo Café. He has gained so much popularity this year. People who didn’t know about him now do. I think he stands a good chance of winning that award.
Winnie Khumalo
She has also released a follow up album from “I Wanna Live My Life” which is called “Women”. I have heard one song on radio. I didn’t get the name of the song and I didn’t like. It’s nothing close to “I Wanna Live My Life.” Maybe there are other songs that are nice from her new album. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Oskido
He has released the 10th Commandment. I have seen the video of one of his songs on LIVE. I think the name of the song is “Thula Sizwe.” There’s a funeral happening in that video and I don’t like it shem. I am not too sure about the song.
L’vovo Derrango
I must say I like his single “Inamandla” from his new album “Irresistible.” It has been getting a lot of air play. Do you think it will make L’vovo the hit he was when he was starting in this music industry? I hope so.
Theo Kgosinkwe
He has released his second solo album called “Grateful” following his first solo album “I Am”, which I still want. “Grateful” is promising to be the hit album too after a few songs I have heard coming from that album. On radio he is pushing the songs “Kukhon’ eng’hamba Naye” and “Pap and Vleice”. We have seen him perform on LIVE and SA’s Got Talent and he still does his thang on stage like he always does.
This is one guy who is enjoyable to watch perform on stage. I am sad that he didn’t get a Metro FM Award nomination because of that release date rule. Metro FM Awards wouldn’t have been short of artists to nominate in that Best Style Artist category, which they ended up putting anyone. Theo would have been the artist who stands a good chance of winning that award and the Best African Pop award too.
Zakes Bantwini
I love his single “Bum Bum” from his new album “The Good Life”. This guy has produced some hit songs with Black Coffe such as Juju. I think his career in music is bright. There is also another single that’s playing on radio called “Clap Your Hands”. Zakes is also nominated for a Metro FM award for Best Male.
Professa
People are loving his single “Jazebel” and “Imoto Entshotshi mali” from his solo album, “University of Kalawa”. I think he stands a good chance of winning the Song of the Year award at the Metro FM awards. He's also nominated for Best Kwaito Album. Whatever happened to his friend Tzozo bathong?
Loyiso Bala
He has a new album out called “Full Circle”. I have heard one song called, “Wrong for You” from this new album. I think I like it. I just hope this new album is also hot like his previous one, “Blow Your Mind”.
Durban’s Finest
Dj Tira and Sox decided to reconcile and make an album together as Durban’s Finest. I saw them perform one of their songs on LIVE. I don’t remember the name of the song but I didn’t like it maybe with time I will.
So who are you buying or jamming to this festive season. It can be any music genre that is not here. Some artist might be still cooking up something.
