After an exhilarating Season 2 of Clash of the Choirs South Africa, the show is coming to an end and the top three are looking forward to coming out tops. An S2 recap ...
This season, judges Dr Rebecca Malope, Lindelani Mkhize and Anele Mdoda sent at least four provinces home for lacking overall excellence in what the judges base their scores on which is presentation, entertainment value, vocal harmony and choirmaster’s what what. However, the judges no longer have a say and only viewers can pick their winner.
The very first female finalist in the competition, Moneoa proved to be an underdog of the season. A revered clash-off expert, Moneoa, on many occasions, found herself and her Mpumalanga peeps at the bottom two having to clash for their lives.
Prior to the penultimate episode, #TeamMoneoa performed a rendition of Rihanna’s Stay and the team’s desperate plea for wanting to stay in the competition translated into an excellent emotional performance which is most arguably her team’s best performance to date. Be that as it may, the team hit a snag quite a number of times as Moneoa, who is the youngest choirmaster in the season, experienced average performances.
However, if Khaya Mthethwa could do it in season one, so could she. But hey, the team is still here. They are still here and that counts for something. However, #TeamMoneoa has a very strong competition to clash against for the trophy.
Robbie Malinga is perhaps this season’s threat to every choirmaster. Full of himself and self-assured, Robbie exudes confidence and it has become very contagious to his choir.
Vocally, KZN has always been the province to beat and to make matters worse for fellow competitors that is, is the fact that Robbie is a producer and can work any note. He only found himself on the clash off only once and with the week that followed, #TeamRobbie came back with a vengeance and got even not only with the judges but with their competition too.
Ever since then, #TeamRobbie has never looked back and they have been holding their fort rather aggressively. The KZN peeps have had a number of highlights and every week they would showcase their overall prowess not only in entertainment value but harmony and presentation too and choirmaster’s conduct proved to be a seamless experience for the viewers.
KZN peeps are known for their strong support of their talent especially on a national scale. Whether the trophy will remain in KZN or not, that is something only the viewers can adjudicate on. Be that as it may, it may not be that easy for #TeamRobbie.
… and that is because Gauteng is proving its vocal mettle and has never been in the punishing clash-off. #TeamShugasmakx has been the most consistent team throughout the entire season and the only team to receive very little beatings from the judges, if any, because those were just slaps on #TeamShuga’s wrist.
#TeamShugasmakx has had a good run and should the title not go to Gauteng, then we shall know Gauteng isn’t an economic hub it claims to be. Shuga and the team worked tirelessly to impress the judges week in and week out and it showed in their weekly performances on stage. Gauteng is KZN’s toughest competition.
Obviously, the top three choirmasters had to fight off with the now booted out four other choirmasters who are Simphiwe Dana ( Eastern Cape), Ziyon (Western Cape), HHP (North West) and Tsedi Mholo (Limpopo). Simphiwe and Tsedi were the worst choirmasters but the definite worst goes to Tsedi and her tantrums. Tsedi at some point threatened to quit but luckily for her, the judges saved her the trouble and booted her out. Simphiwe simply struggled to give viewers a seamless presentation. On the other hand, #TeamHHP were good but not good enough to outperform #TeamMoneoa.
The judges have had their say in the competition and even some surprises along the way especially with them being undecided on who should go home and ending up saving the clash off peeps. At some time, Rebecca and Lindelani even refused to give feedback to one of the teams because the team was that bad. All the judges’ scheming is now over and it’s now up the viewers to elect their winner.
All their choirs want your votes. “The reason why you should vote for us is because we want to change the life of The Amazing Grace Orphanage, so we pray that you vote for Team Mpumalanga,” says #TeamMoneoa
#Team Robbiealso brought up their charity: “We are not only doing this for ourselves but we are also doing it for the kids at Ekhwezi and I think it would be a great experience for us to share the money with them. It’s nice doing something and not expecting anything in return,” says #TeamRobbie.
“We bring it and we’ve done it all, we are very diverse in terms of voices and genres. There is a goal we have – that we are going to do this not only for us but also for our charity and the love we have for children."
