Press Release
The Idols Season 10 Top 11 couldn’t afford to celebrate too much after the excitement of the big announcement Sunday evening (14 September) - they had to get straight to work rehearsing their numbers for this Sunday’s [21 September] big Top 11 Spectacular.
The theme for the Top 11 Spectacular is “Movie Magic”, and the contestants are being mentored in their rehearsals this week by American singer-songwriter Gordon Chambers, who has written hits for the likes of Usher, Beyoncé, Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin.
In alphabetical order, not performance order:
Nelspruit backup singer Bongi Silinda (23) goes Bond Girl this week with Tina Turner’s classic “GoldenEye”, from the 1995 Bond film of the same name.
The leggy blonde from Durbanville, Demi Lee (24), is giving new life to the old Aerosmith classic “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”, from the 1998 asteroid melodrama “Armageddon”.
Former Centurion hairdresser Ivan Roux (24) chose the Prince song, “Kiss”, which was sung by Nicole Kidman in the 2006 animated hit “Happy Feet”.
Kyle Deutschmann (27), the chiropractor from Durban, is keeping it current with the Imagine Dragons hit “Radioactive”, which featured on the soundtrack of the 2013 sci-fi drama, “The Host”.

Cape Town performer London Louw (24) gets to show off his dance moves with the Destiny’s Child anthem “Independent Women”, from the “Charlie’s Angels” soundtrack [2000].

Cape Town music student Roxy McVean (19) is channeling her inner Rihanna with the 2007 hit “Shut Up And Drive”, which has featured in many movies including the 2008 teen comedy “Wild Child”, the 2008 drama “21”, and the 2008 comedy “The House Bunny”.
21-year-old Musical Theatre student Tumi Morobane is interpreting Faith Hill’s stirring ballad “There You’ll Be”, from the “Pearl Harbor” soundtrack [2001].
Vincent Bones (29) from Pietermaritzburg is performing the Prince classic “Purple Rain”, from His Purpleness’s 1984 movie of the same name.
And Vincent Verhoog (25) from Cape Town has chosen Seal’s cover of the old Steve Miller song “Fly Like an Eagle”, from the 1996 “Space Jam” movie soundtrack.
And the whole Top 11 will also perform a group number together: the Adam Levine ballad “Lost Stars” from the musical comedy-drama “Begin Again”, which opened in South Africa this week.
