Five must-know facts about The Walking Dead 5

The chompylicious Walking Dead's back for Season 5 soon and there are five must-knows facts that are crucial to know about it:

1. It starts on FOX on Monday, 13 October at 21h20. As per usual, episodes air a day after their US broadcast.

2. Things pick up shortly after the end of Season 4  ... with our beloved heroes trapped in the train car, surrounded by crackpots in that Terminus place they took so long to get to. The season's going to interweave Terminus - which no doubt represents Terror Firma - with a mission to get to Washington DC for the zombie cure.

3. Enter
Sgt Abraham Ford (played by Michael Cudlitz) ...

It seems he's going to be a vital component this season which is excellent because he's super. Kind, misunderstood, very loud yet trustworthy. I'm not familiar with the Walking Dead comics but apparently he plays a big part in them.

4. Another notable this season is Gareth, who's very likely a lunatic because he could be a cannibal of the human kind. He's in charge of Terminus and he's very different from The Governor apparently.

I've been swept up in this article about him which says that he might be a combination of various cannibalistic characters from the comic books because he doesn't exist as an individual character in them.

He's played by Andrew J. West who I've never seen before in my life. He was on the comedy Greek which I never watched so I have no perspective on what he's like.

5. Daryl Dixon could be gay and thus satisfies everyone's fantasies about him. It's crazy how hott he is despite how unwashed he is ... how is it possible to feel that?

Various people associated with the show have been talking about him being gay as a possibility including Norman Reedus who plays him. He told GQ that him and former showrunner Frank Darabont discussed that Daryl might be "prison gay".  If you're like me and have no clue what it means, this is Norman's description:

Well, he's prison gay—like, you'll catch him looking at a member of the same sex, but if you mention it to him, he'll just stab you and be like what the f--k?—he will never admit it.'

It could make sense when you consider his relationships with both Beth and Carol. Nothing's ever happened between them yet they've been so close and so attracted to each other. There's always been a sexual element to their relationships though - hasn't there? Unless that's my sexual attraction to Daryl.

I don't care whether he likes girls, guys or anyone in between, all I want is something sexual from him. Sadly it isn't going to happen though because series showrunner Scott M. Gimple spoke about his sexuality too - after everyone else hinted that he might be gay.

He told TVLine that Daryl's sexuality won't be clarified in the season and that the show's introducing a new gay character. I'm thinking he'll be someone who'll get Daryl confronting his sexuality.

6. Bonus fact! ... the trailer:

I'm a bit torn on the whole "Daryl might be gay" issue.

On the one hand, I don't think it contradicts anything we know or have seen about his character.  From what I remember about what's been revealed of his past, most of it had to do with his relationship with Merle, and there was never any mention of any previous romantic partners (male or female).  And I didn't really pick up a sexual element with respect to his relationships with Carol and Beth - I always saw them as a close platonic friendship with Carol and a big brother vibe with Beth (although maybe there was a bit of attraction on her part).

But even though he could be gay, is it really necessary to make him so?  It comes across as a bit of a ratings stunt, and they do already have a gay character in the form of Tara, even if she's not a main character (at least at the moment).

But it all comes down to how they handle it.  It could be done well or rather ham-fistedly.  If the former then I don't really have a problem with it.
