Press Release
The Idols SA Top 9 group have been rehearsing non-stop all week for this Sunday’s big Top 8 Spectacular live from the State Theatre in Pretoria, under the mentorship of South Africa’s jazz, fusion and mbaqanga legend, Ray Phiri.
Idols celebrates 20 years of Democracy this year and after saying goodbye to the contestant with the fewest votes at the start of Sunday’s show [5 October], the Top 8 will perform songs that were hits in 1994, when South Africa celebrated its first democratic election.

Lize Mynhardt (21) from Stellenbosch is going vintage R’nB with the Boyz II Men classic, “I’ll Make Love To You”.
London Louw (24) from Cape Town’s song is the Cranberries hit “Zombie”.
eMalahleni’s Musa Mashiane (27) keeps it African with the hit “7 Seconds”, by Youssou N'Dour, featuring Neneh Cherry
Cape Town music student Roxy McVean (19) has selected M-People’s “Moving On Up”.
Tumi Morobane (21) from Johannesburg will be performing Gloria Estefan’s “Turn The Beat Around”.
And the worship leader from Pietermaritzburg, Vincent Bones (29), is going with Tevin Campbell’s “Can We Talk”.
Tickets for the show are on sale now from Computicket and the Top 8 Spectacular goes out live on M-Net and Mzanzi Magic on Sunday 5 October at 17:00, with a special guest performance from Season 9 Idol Zoe Zana and a never-before-seen collaboration between Ray Phiri and hit-makers Beatenberg.
