Press Release
NIK RABINOWITZ KICKS OFF NEW SEASON OF “COMEDY CENTRAL PRESENTS…” HILARIOUS COMEDY FIXTURE & TV SHOW RETURNS IN 2015
Comedy authority
Comedy Central (DStv Premium, channel 122) is launching a brand new season of its LOL monthly stand-up comedy showcase and TV comedy series,
Comedy Central Presents….
The first show of the new season, taking place at
Jou Ma Se Comedy Club, Cape Town on Thursday 29 January, will be headlined by Cape Town comic
Nik Rabinowitz, with support from
Khanyiso Kenqa and
Dalin Oliver.
Kurt Schoonrad is MC.
Raised on the mean, green streets of Constantia, Cape Town,
Nik Rabinowitz (@nikrabinowitz) grew up on a farm, climbing trees and commentating on his own rugby games in at least three of South Africa’s eleven official languages.
After leaving university with a Business degree, he travelled Southern Africa with a theatre company and a herd of donkeys, inspiring a foray into stand-up comedy. Over the subsequent ten years,
Rabinowitz has established himself as one of the country’s
premiere comedy acts, well known for his multilingual satire, spot on mimicry and passion for goats, surfing and cricket.
Apart from
producing and performing his own one man shows,
Nik presents
The Week that Wasn't on
Talk Radio 702 and
Cape Talk, plays a legion of characters for SA's most popular
online satirical production, ZA News, and is internationally recognised as the world's leading Xhosa-speaking Jewish comedian.
Khanyiso Kenqa was born in Langa Township, Cape Town, to a taxi boss father and police officer mother, and credits his parents’ “odd couple” status with putting him on the path to stand-up comedy.
Through his energetic, fast-paced delivery of gags and stories,
Kenga has a refreshing take on South African life, from politics and social issues, to observations of the everyday, many with a unique twist inspired by his experience working as a tour guide.
His “lost in translation” pieces are always a crowd favourite. Apart from his stand-up work
Kenga has performed in numerous commercials including the Southern Sun “You’ve Arrived” campaign, the Vodacom “Goes Red” ad, and a Spur Restaurants ad. He has also featured in SA sitcoms, “Stokvel” and “Going Up Again”, and the drama series, “Interrogation Room”.
When he’s not presenting the sport on
Good Hope FM’s weekday lunchtime show, 25 year old
Dalin Oliver is making audiences smile thanks to his clean-cut, energetic stand-up comedy.
Having started out his comedy career in 2010, in less than a year,
Oliver was performing alongside comedy veteran Stuart Taylor at
On Broadway, playing the main stage at the prestigious Vodacom Funny Festival, and featuring in the line-up of the Vodacom Funny Festival Community Road Show.
In 2013,
Oliver started spreading his wings even further, opening for Barry Hilton on the Cape Town leg of his “Best of Everything Ever” tour, and for Riaad Moosa on his “Doctors Orders” tour. He also toured East London as Stuart Taylor’s opening act for his “Learner Husband” Book Tour Launch.
At that year’s National Arts Festival,
Oliver formed part of a comedy collective under the
Jou Ma Se Comedy Club banner, before rounding out the year off by performing alongside Nik Rabinowitz, Stuart Taylor, Riaad Moosa, Schalk Bezuidenhoudt and Kagiso Mokgadi at “Keeping you in Stitches 2” at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
At the 2014 National Arts Festival, the success of
Oliver’s debut one man stand-up comedy show; “I Came, I Taught, I Left” convinced this former high school mathematics and history teacher to continue to pursue his career as a comedian.
