Immediately after the Top 5 elimination, I ran to the media room with my partner in crime to speak to Kyle whose Idol dream just came to an end. Sitting in a secluded room, with a bit of an unexciting disappointment, I sit next to Kyle; shake his hand before we have the conversation below…
Taz: How are you feeling?
Kyle: Uhhm, I am ok, I think you deal with these things before you go. Before you go in you prepare yourself mentally. And then you wait to hear that news and If you don’t hear it then it’s a positive.
Taz: Did you perhaps see the elimination coming?
Kyle: I was positive today. I was confident in my songs for this week, so that made me positive for tonight, but these things happen, you prepare yourself but someone has to go home.
Taz: You were very social-media savvy, replying to tweets immediately while other contestants were chilled, does it make you feel like your fans have failed you in a way?
Kyle: I think my fans have taken me this far, I don’t think failed is a good word to use. Obviously it’s counted on votes and the one with the least votes has to leave. And in this case it’s me, but it doesn’t mean I will be the least supported with my music going forward.
Taz: What is going to happen with Kyle musically after this?
Kyle: I am definitely going to release stuff; I've got stuff in the pipeline to be released, stuff that’s already recorded. So we will be waiting for the go-ahead from the show on that.
Taz: Tell us about your collaboration with Casper Nyovest.
Kyle: I wrote a song after Idols 2 years ago, we recorded it and we sent it through to Casper and he obviously liked it and he recorded it as the last song in his album, its number 6 on his album and it’s called “Alive”. If you look on twitter the most talked about song from Casper’s album is that song. So that’s really positive.
Taz: Having done that collaboration, do you have any plan/idea of what you would like to do now?
Kyle: I think from here you can only be in the industry if you release really good music. I’ve recorded what I consider and a couple others consider as good music. So my plan is to release as much as possible as soon as possible.
Taz: I’ve watched your performance consistently throughout the whole season and you’ve had a crossover appeal. How is it important to have a crossover appeal especially in this kind of competition?
Kyle: I think it’s either you go home or stay in. As a white person you have to have that crossover appeal, because it’s not only white people watching the show, so it’s something that comes out naturally to me cause I grew up playing football, I speak Zulu, I dress like a Zulu, people also call me ‘that white Zulu’. And so I haven’t really had to force that.
Taz: Who are you going to miss the most in the house?
Kyle: Uhhhhmm, I think I will miss the staff the most (laughs candidly). I don’t think I will miss anyone too much. I think all the people that I was really close to have gone already. So I won’t miss anyone too much.
Taz: It was written some time ago that there was some tension in the house, with you guys (Idols) living together, clashing and different personalities in one house and all. Did you experience any of that with any contestant in the house?
Kyle: Naaah, I didn’t have any, I…, I am a very-not-confrontational person, so I haven’t, I never really involved myself in any of the confrontations.
Taz: Who do see winning this season or do you have anyone in mind you hope they win?
Kyle: I think Vincent Bones is going to take this, hands-down.
Taz: That’s a very direct answer Kyle, haha .. Thanks for your time and all the best for the future and we hope to hear more of your music.
