Good day good people
I just felt like showing the world a bit more of me. Sometimes one tends to want to throw in the towel and just walk away but I found (as vain as it may sound) taking a look at all the youtube videos I've made brings me back to that place where I feel hungry to get to where I want to be. Entertaining is my first love and as always, nothing would make me happier than to be discovered one day and to do what I do best.
I've always known that breaking into the industry would be difficult and self esteem crushing (if allowed) but I never realised that the older you get the more those feelings of anxiety and pressure to get there tend to grow. But you know what, no matter what, I will continue to pursue this dream of mine and push myself as hard as humanly possible to get to where I ought to be!
This has popped into my mind quite a few times but I usually tend to just sweep it away and store it at the back of my mind as just another one of those random thoughts that shouldn't be taken seriously. The contrary is that it is actually quite a vital thought!
If you're like me and add yourself to every single social group that notifies you about up and coming castings (no matter how small or big the role), then you would have had at least one occasion where you responded to a post and were asked to send your CV.
The first time this happened to me I thought to myself, oh my gosh are they seriously asking for my CV (thinking they were referring to the CV I've had since I started working odd jobs in restaurants, bars and retail stores) and proceeded to send them THAT CV (I cringe at the thought every time jesu!!!). It’s absolutely no surprise that I got ZERO responses to those emails (squinted side eye sigh).
I did however almost just type up a random word document (bulleted form...gosh) of the 2 advertisements I did at the time but thought... AINT NOBODY GOT TIME TO BE SEEING A “CV” MADE UP OF JUST 2 BULLET POINTS...and opted to send my original CV out of embarrassment of lack of experience (and because my a** didn’t know what an actor’s CV looked like to begin with kikiki).
What is imperative to remember is that most (if not all) great TV personalities started somewhere (at the bottom) and casting directors know this. Even if you’ve only been booked for one advertisement or were an extra in a TV show, that is still experience! Create and put that on your actors CV like a BAWSE and put yourself out there boo boo!
When it comes to almost anything I always use the line “Google is your friend”. No matter what you’re looking for, you will most likely find it on Google. Google a template of actor’s CVs and use those to create your own.
More information than you think (other than experience) is required on an actor’s CV so it won’t be as naked as you think honies. Having a professional looking actor’s CV (no matter how many jobs you’ve landed) gives you a better chance of being taken seriously and maybe even landing an awesome roll.
If you take yourself seriously, you will be taken seriously #dropsthemic
