TVSA has learned that a new Afrikaans lifestyle TV channel will be launching on DStv later this year with a line-up of South African shows featuring both real people and celebs.
The channel is being produced by Media 24 and some of the shows will be supplied by Quizzical Pictures (Umlilo, Rhythm City, Swartwater) who are creating six series for the channel.
The first puts celebs through a mother-of-experiences involving a showdown between their mothers and mothers-in-law. Their mothers and mothers-in-law have to cook their favourite meal, they taste it blindfolded and have to say who cooked it best. What could possibly go wrong?
Another series titled Familie Fotos (Family Photos) follows families as they have new family portraits taken. Families have to send in their old family portraits and those selected will have new ones done professionally as the show follows them through the process.
There's also a consumer show called Die Kortlys (The Short List) that rounds up the 10 best products or services round particular themes. It's described as honest and the series brief says that it aims to be as credible as possible so it could be a valuable addition to the TV landscape which has too few consumer shows.
The channel will be going live later this year.
