Rhythm City's Smangele: the girl you want to know

Speshil's baby mama arrives on Rhythm City tonight and first impressions suggest she's gonna be good company.

The sort of person you want to hang with because of how delighted you'd be when she freaks people out with her attitude.

Her name: Smangele. She's played by Thandy Matlaila and she has a temperamental attachment to Speshil. She's had an on-and-off relationship with him since high school and she's been let down by him. He promised her the world, she believed him and she suffered the consequences when his promised paradise didn't materialise.

All this is part of the reason she didn't finish high school despite the fact that she tried passing Grade 11 four times. She gave up on school, had a son with Speshil and now she's arriving in a burst of rudeness.

Here's more from her character bio:

Even though Smangele is just rude, everyone loves her for her razor-sharp wit, cruel humour and no-nonsense attitude. If anyone’s feeling down, Smangele is their go-to girl. She’s no shoulder to cry on, but she’ll help them drown their sorrows and then tell them to toughen up and get it together. Her favourite exclamation is, “Weeee, ntombi ka Mlotshwa!” This she utters when she hears shocking news.

People with such attitude always fill me with a sense that all is right with the world when they're around.
