Prison bars came crashing down for Lelo on Skeem Saam on Thursday night when she was sentenced to 15 years in jail for her cray crimes.
Which means she's going to be out of the picture from now until an unknown date. No details about Lelo's future have been confirmed yet but we can tell you that she'll be back at some point in the future.
In the meantime, she's getting shipped off to deal with the reality of her sentence. Is 15 years the right punishment? Has justice been served? We caught up with some of the Skeem Saam stars to find out how they feel about it.
Natasha Thahane (Enhle)
"She definitely needs to go to jail. As a viewer I'm literally tired of them letting Lelo get away with everything. She's been winning with Kwaito, with Enhle, with Tbose and everyone else. 15 years is enough. Enhle is a good person at the end of the day and wouldn't want her to go for a life sentence because it wasn't THAT bad."
Eric Macheru (Leeto)
If Leeto had his own way it would be a life sentence. He really does not like her at
all. Sitting from the outside looking in as a viewer... Lelo's done some pretty bad things so she deserves to go to jail. Maybe a mental hospital somewhere as well. *
laughs* I think 15 years is pretty fair.
Cornet Mamabolo (Tbose)
"As Tbose it's something that I've always anticipated and always wanted. I feel it should have happened a long time ago because she has wronged my friend on different levels. She has compromised his identity because there was a point where he lost the trust of his parents and the community and from me. I couldn't even manage to rescue him when they kidnapped him. She almost led my friend to losing his life.
Me as Cornet... we have worked closely with Amanda Du-Pont to a point where we started developing that artistic bond and understanding of each other's style of acting and we gel well together so now that there's going to be a bit of a break, it's a bit saddening.
Sometimes it takes a bit of time to adjust to an actor's way of acting and we were at a point where we understand each other, gel well, share materials that we can use to act together. We both come from drama institutions so there was a lot we would converse about. The shift started when Lelo started dating Babymaker. That's when we started spending minimal time together on set."
Bongani Masondo (Babymaker)
"For Babymaker... he's fallen in love with her and given himself to her. He wants her home with him so they can build a life together, make babies, maybe get married. He's very scared, he asked Lelo what he must do and she said, "Wait for me," That's very scary. How do wait for someone for a person who goes away for years? How do you just wait and say, "No, I'm going to keep waiting for that one person."?
As Bongani I feel that she's getting what she deserves. Knowing everything that she's done, she has to pay for her crimes. We live in a country where we'd like to believe that that's what our justice system is there for so that when a person wrongs people they get a punishment they deserve.
I think that's why there's a lot of outcry with the whole Oscar thing with people saying, "Is it fair? Is it not fair? Why was Jub Jub not given parole to go home for house arrest?" and that type of stuff. I feel it's something that's needed. Lelo is finally getting what she deserves for what she has done.
I felt Lelo's lawyer Kobus was actually very good but in this case the truth has won. The truth, they say, can set you free but this time it can also send you to jail."
