24-year-old former Stellenbosch student Karabo Mogane from Mbombela became the 11th South African to win the title of Idol on the show's season finale last night.
Karabo beat 23-year-old Mmatema Moremi who did her best to fly the flag for girls nationwide but failed to win the necessary votes when it came to the crunch.
For the first time in the history of the competition, the show's doing what it should have done 11 seasons ago. Karabo's album will be released within the next two weeks, in time for Christmas. A very important move that will prevent him from disappearing from our consciousness within a month of winning the show.
In addition to his recording contract with Universal Music, he's also won himself...
- R700 000 cash,
- a SmartBroadband Wireless 50GB 55 Inch Smart TV,
- an internet router, bandwidth and a Playstation 4 to the value of R41 000,
- a Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost Titanium valued at R225 900,
- fashion to the value of R100 000 from Truworths,
- Shure microphone equipment from Shure to the value of R135 000, a ULX-D dual wireless digital receiver with 2 Shure Beta58 microphones, an in-ear earphone and monitor system, and a flight case for the equipment,
- R70 000 worth of Yamaha musical equipment.
He's also attending the the finale of American Idol in Los Angeles next year and will be opening for Mi Casa at the final concert of their Dare To Love tour at Carnival City on 11 December.
Keep a lookout on TVSA for our interview with him.
