Job Introduction
Africa Business Report is the weekly business programme on BBC World News. Broadcasting to an audience of millions across Africa and worldwide, the programme delivers in-depth and compelling coverage of business, economics and technology stories from across the continent.
We also cover daily African business news for outlets across BBC television, radio, digital and social media. This is an exciting opportunity to work and travel as part of our small but dedicated and passionate team within one of the world’s biggest broadcasters. As Video Journalist, your role will be to produce compelling video material for the programme.
Role Responsibility
You will need to originate and select business and economic stories and prepare programme material for broadcast, offering ideas and guidance to the Editor. You will produce video items for TV and digital services, shoot, script, voice and edit TV packages, prepare digital video and radio packages in liaison with editorial and resource staff.
This position will need you to edit the weekly Africa Business Report programme using FCP X. You’ll observe and carry out any requirement outlined in the BBC News safety policy and specifically to conduct risk assessments whenever appropriate; and be aware of the full extent of the financial and purchasing authority of the post, ensuring that this authority is exercised in accordance with BBC News and BBC Finance Guidelines.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have considerable paid experience of broadcast journalism, coupled with excellent written and spoken English language skills to a broadcast ready level. You will have a good understanding of the main production methods and technology used by BBC News and the ability to use technical and operational skills across Television, Radio and Digital as required.
You’ll have a demonstrable understanding of different needs, audiences and agendas of the full range of BBC News programmes and channels, being those broadcast in the UK, Africa and globally. You will have familiarity with the BBC Editorial Guidelines, and awareness of the contractual and legal considerations applying to programme production and budgeting.
This role will need you to have the ability to generate original programme stories and work to tight deadlines with extensive travel across Africa. A working knowledge of Final Cut Pro Ten (FCP X) is essential. Would be comfortable working in a Hostile Environment
