TVSA can exclusively reveal that actor and muso Anga Makubalo (
aka NaakMusiQ) has joined Isidingo as a major new character on the show.
The news comes in the wake of big changes on the soapie, specifically
Kgomotso Christopher's exit on Wednesday night and a production reshuffle behind the scenes.
Isidingo's head writer Rohan Dickson has taken over the reigns as executive producer, replacing Pumla Hopa who now works on other Endemol produced series.
These changes have sparked the introduction of upcoming new storylines, with Anga taking on the role of Obakeng.
TVSA spoke to Isidingo's senior resident writer Athos Kyriakides who described his character as a 20-something, good looking, heartthrob miner - who hasn't always been a miner.
He's worked in neighbouring towns doing other jobs and starts working as a miner when he arrives in the Deep. He arrives solo, seemingly unconnected to anyone else but as things unfold it's going to become clear that he's very connected to one of the families.
"I don't want to give that away," Athos told us when we pried for details on Who. "It's kind of a big plot spoiler but it will come to light that he has a very real connection with two very big characters."
The role means that Anga will be one of the hottest commodities in the country during winter, appearing on three primetime shows at the same time. He plays Bantu on Mzansi Magic's new drama series Igazi - which runs until July - and he'll be reprising his role as Ntando on the second season of e.tv's Z'bondiwe when it premieres in May.
He's already started filming his first scenes on Isidingo and according to Athos: "He's really killing the role so far."
He debuts on Thursday, 16 June.
