On set.
Rapper-turned-actor Emtee's got a bumper weekend coming up. He's been nominated for five SAMAs, he's performing with Kwesta at Saturday's ceremony and he's debuting on Muvhango.
He arrives tonight (3 June) in the role of Malose, a school friend of Vusi's (Raphael Griffiths). Malose's gone through one letdown after another, which leads to him to a secret life of crime.
Here's a close-up on Who He Is so you know about his past when you meet him:
Malose is the oldest of three children. He comes from a humble background - a mother who sells everything from vetkoek to fruit, to try and keep the family afloat and a father who does his work to spend the little money that comes in. Malose was a hard worker and did everything and did everything by the book when he was in high school.
He believed that if he persevered he would reap the rewards. And persevere he did. He got very impressive results in high school and went to university with a full scholarship. But when he completed his business degree, he was in for a rude awakening. Try as he might to find a job, he just couldn’t find one.
Everywhere he looked, it was the same story: "no hiring at the moment". Malose slowly became bitter and held a grudge against the world. He feels stuck and has no more faith in his potential or abilities. He’s mostly sullen and keeps to himself.
He took on the first job he could get - which was as a waiter at Dukathole. And although his heart is not in it, he does his duties to the best of his abilities. So far, he’s managed to go under the radar but what his employers don’t know is that he’s been stealing from them. He justifies this to himself as the world owing him something.
