A Passion for Revenge played out in a hail of bullets on Friday night (30 September) and a new novela steps up to take its place tonight (3 October). Manuel & Silvana premieres on Telemundo at 18h00 and tells an age-old story of love vs. prejudice from a unique perspective.
Instead of dealing with the prejudice of the rich towards the middle classes and the poor, it looks at the situation the other way round.
The story centres round Silvana, played by Maritza Rodriguez (Behind Closed Doors, The Face of Destiny, Cruel Love), a privileged woman who had everything her heart desired until her life gets turned upside down.
She's forced to move to a working class neighbourhood with her three daughters and moves into an apartment next door to Manuel, played by Carlos Ponce (Devious Maids, Telenovela).
Manuel has worked tirelessly to take care of his four children since his wife died and has a hard-working attitude. This results in his dislike of the upper classes which gets dramatically challenged when he finds himself attracted to Silvana.
Here's a close-up on his conflict from the official synopsis:
While Manuel sells fish to support his family, Silvana needs to learn to cope in a world very different from the one she’s become accustomed to. Will Manuel be able to put aside his prejudices toward the rich and accept Silvana? Will Silvana be able to disprove all the upper-class stereotypes Manuel throws her way?
While Manuel has made a promise to his children to never marry again, Silvana’s charm proves hard to resist for a man who has been alone for so long. While she is finding the strength to adjust, she isn’t sure where her feelings for Manuel will take her in the long run.
Will the two be able to put their differences aside, or will their opposite lives prove too much to overcome?
