The verdict is in and the cameras are rolling for the upcoming fifth season of MTV's drama series Shuga.
Six characters have been cast through the open auditions which were held in October last year (in the real world and online).
Those who've landed roles are:
Samkelisiwe Makhoba, a Wits film and TV student, plays naïve and troubled teenager Khensani.
AFDA graduate
Cebo Zikhali plays Kitso.
Sphelele Mzimela (Kentucky on Isibaya) plays Sis No’xolo.
Z'bondiwe star
Eve Rasimeni plays a clerical nurse. Eve's other credits include eKasi, Rhythm City, Isibaya, Scandal! and Thola.
Herbert Sibanda (who played a police officer on The Queen last year) plays Fentse and
Thabiso Seboka plays a soccer player.
Clint Brink \ Winnie Ntshaba \ Stephanie Sandows
The sixsome join a heavyweight cast that includes Generations star Winnie Ntshaba, Clint Brink (Scandal!, Binnelanders, Rockville, Roer Jou Voete), Given Stuurman (Tshisa, Skeem Saam, Saints and Sinners, Igazi, Gauteng Maboneng), hip hop star Kwesta, Nigerian singer-songwriter Seyi Shay and Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee.
Other notables include Scandal!'s casting co-ordinator Stephanie Sandows, who also plays Ingrid on the soapie, and Mohau Mokoatle Cele, who returns to reprise her role as Bongi.
Shuga's new season went into production in December last year and will continue to explore the themes of HIV, sexual health and identity that have become synonymous with the show.
Previous seasons were filmed and set in Kenya and Nigeria but this season the action is set in the clubs, hangouts and schools of Joziburg's Braamfontein, and the township of Zenzele, a fictional version of Soweto.
The season premieres on Wednesday, 8 March and will air across Africa on MTV Base, BET, as well as the free-to-air channels. Keep a lookout on TVSA for further broadcast deets.
