Aha! Now we know why the Zazz in Zaziwa has been jolted to Sunday nights.
It's because SABC1's bringing out the big guns to take on Ferguson Magic and e.tv's movies to reinvent SABC1 on Sundays.
Turns out Zaziwa's move is part of a Sunday night primetime overhaul.
TVSA member
Timone spotted the first glimpse of these developments by spilling that the channel will be debuting a new Sunday night drama called Ingozi, produced by Muvhango heavyweight Duma Ndlovu.
It's at the centre of the shake-up and its debut means that SABC1's new Sunday night schedule will look like this from Sunday, 12 February:
18h00: Friends Like These
19h00: Xhosa/Zulu News
19h30: Ingozi
20h00: Ngempela
20h30: Zaziwa
21h00: Movie
New episodes of Friends Like These will air on Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday, 11 February.
The Saturday episodes are going to alternate with Real Goboza specials e.g. on Saturday 25 February, a Metro Awards black carpet RGB special will air instead.
As we mentioned
here, Zaziwa will be replaced by
Twitter on TV #ThrowbackThursday from Thursday, 9 February at 19h30, which has turned out to be a sign of the channel's intense faith in Pearl Modiadie's pulling power.
In fact, they're so gaga about her they've also given her a second show called Raw Silk, which starts this Tuesday (7 February ) at 21h00. It's a search for Mzansi's next big designer and Pearl will be headlining both shows at the same time.
As for what we can expect from Duma's latest offering... it's a drama about the impact of one night on a road. The story centres round three families from different backgrounds and how their lives are torn apart by the events of the night.
It stars Jet Novuka (Yizo Yizo, Jacob's Cross, Montana, 4Play), Xolile Tshabalala (High Rollers, Generations, Jacob's Cross), Mmabatho Mogomotsi (Heartlines, Yizo Yizo, Ashes to Ashes), Lunathi Mampofu (Isikizi), Wiseman Mncube (The Kingdom - uKhakhayi, Gold Diggers), Nkanyiso Mchunu (Skiwas) and Molobane Mbatha (Muvhango, Rhythm City).
These are the opening moments...
Zikhona (Lunathi Mampofu) has just been elected student body president. She decides to go home and surprise her long-suffering mother with the good news just as Sizwe (Wiseman Mncube) finally decides to embrace his new career as a taxi driver in all its forms.
On the other side of town, Dali (Senzo Radebe) and a few of his close buddies have been drinking. They have a few girls from campus with them.
One of them in particular, has clearly caught Dali’s eye. He’s determined to hook up with her that night. But when the booze runs out, this seems unlikely to happen. But Dali thinks fast and instantly becomes the hero of the night.
His decision sets three lives and three families on a collision course.
