Mexico is a festival of colour from lush tropical jungles to orange sunburnt deserts, as well as vast green pine forests, white snow-capped volcanoes and deep blue lakes. All of these amazing landscapes are inhabited by an equally surprising range of wildlife and human cultures.
The series begins in the far northeast of Mexico at the Serranias del Burro, a vital outpost for Mexico's black bears, where there is little groundwater for bears to drink. Meanwhile, meet a 16-year-old blue agave farmer, or 'jimador', who harvests plants with his uncle to make perhaps the most famous mountain product – tequila.
In Episode 2, visit the ancient temples of the Maya, which still tower over the forests of the Yucatan, where jaguars, monkeys and vibrant tropical birds now make their home. It is a forest full of secrets, with a vast watery underworld that is still being explored and which holds the key to how animals and people survive the dry season.
Finally, Episode 3 visits the deserts of Northern Mexico, the country's driest region. We unravel the forces that have created this arid world and discover, that for the animals who live here, overcoming these conditions can bring rich rewards.
