A new novela Celia Cruz premieres on EVA (DStv, channel 141) today (29 November), replacing I Forgot I Love You, which ended yesterday.
It premieres at 17h00 and the nightly broadcast airs at 23h00.
The series is a take on the real life story of legendary Cuban-American singer Celia Cruz, who was popularly known as the Queen of Salsa.
She began her career in the midst of the Cuban Revolution, during a time when female singers had no stage, and she created a revolution when she imposed respect for women in popular music.
She broke through the barriers of racism, thrilled audiences with her powerful voice and style, and became a universal icon.
She tallied a total of 23 gold albums during her career. She died at the age of 77, from brain cancer.
