It's not simply enough for the cops to catch a killer – justice can only be served with a conviction in court. Getting to that point requires close cooperation between detectives and prosecutors.
This documentary series takes you inside the investigation process in the fight for justice for victims and their loved ones.
After 21 years as a prosecutor with the Brooklyn District Attorney's office, where she held a 35-0 success record in the Homicide Bureau before leaving in 2017, Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi will bring her expertise to the show as well.
The series will be presented through Nicolazzi's own unique lens as a seasoned prosecutor as she travels the country to interview prosecuting attorneys about the most difficult homicide cases they ever faced in pursuit of a conviction.
Each episode follows Nicolazzi as she visits the scene of the crime, examines the case through the eyes of the prosecutor, and meets with key figures at the centre of the case including the loved ones and investigators.
Along the way, Nicolazzi shares her personal reflections and insight into the case, connects elements of the story to her own experiences as a prosecutor, and reveals how the complex layers of each murder investigation came together in the courtroom.
In coming episodes, detectives discuss the tangled web of leads and lies in the case of Donna Decker, shot dead in her home as her husband and young son lay bound in their home.
And, detectives describe the painstaking work to piece together the final hours of Cindy Monkman Apelt, found murdered in the Arizona desert.
