Império (Empire) is a Brazilian primetime telenovela which documents the journey of a man from his humble origins to his life as a millionaire patriarch, his dedicated first daughter and the unscrupulous efforts of a woman obsessed with him.
José Alfredo is a man of humble origin who has dedicated his life to the construction of an empire. By a twist of fate, he entered the market for illegal trade in precious stones and became a successful diamond smuggler.
Twenty years later, José Alfredo "Comendador" will have to deal with numerous conflicts, in addition to running his now-famous jewelery chain.
Problems running his business include a dispute over the direction of his empire and the sudden appearance of a supposed daughter he's never heard of.
When the show aired in Brazil it was watched by 30-million viewers per minute. Weekly, the accumulated number of viewers reached 100-million.
In November 2015, Império was awarded Best Telenovela at the 43rd International Emmy Awards.
