For the moneyed, the powerful and even the President, Olivia is a legend in her field. Her spectacular success is mostly due to her unbreakable rule of always trust your gut.
No matter how careful you are, when you do damage control for a living, you're bound to cause some damage to your own life. She and her crew eat, sleep, live and breathe crisis.
Each week, as the team races against the clock to defuse intriguing new problems before they become full-blown disasters, they also have to deal with their own personal issues. They may call themselves "gladiators in suits", but little by little, Olivia and her crew begin to reveal the chinks in their armour.
The accomplished and always loyal staff of Pope & Associates includes Harrison Wright, a charismatic litigator; Huck, former CIA interrogator and hacker extraordinaire; investigator Abby Whelan, who comes from an abusive past, and Quinn Perkins, the newest and most mysterious addition to the team.
Olivia has assembled this group of stray dogs and turned them into a fearsome and loyal pack who will follow her blindly and do whatever is necessary to help a client. But they can never be too careful with the Assistant U.S. Attorney David Rosen tracking their every move.
Meanwhile Olivia may need to exercise some damage control on her own behalf. After having an affair with her former boss, President Fitzgerald Grant, she has vowed to end the relationship.
But the passion between them is hard for either to deny, and manipulative First Lady Mellie Grant and ruthless Chief of Staff Cyrus Beene, who are aware of the affair, use it to serve their own agenda, proving that the Pope & Associates' clients aren't the only ones with dirty secrets.
This season picks up right where we left off in the Season 2 finale, moments after news channels reported that Olivia Pope was President Grant's mistress, "The First Mistress".

Millie is trying to "hook up" Olivia by providing her with a list of public figures who are single. Olivia settles for Jake Ballard.

After Olivia gets attacked at the subway station and rescued by Huck who killed the two attackers she tells her father about it who finds Huck and locks him up in "the hole" but before Command locked Huck up, Huck had told Olivia a little bit about "Wonderland" and where it was located.
Speaking of Huck... after Jake hits a wall - metaphorically speaking - while looking into the death of Olivia's mother, Maya Lewis; he seeks out assistance from Huck. After they have enough proof that her father ordered the army pilot to shoot down Maya's plane they take what they have to Olivia.
