Please note: The status of this story changed on Monday, 25 November 2019 and new episodes of Generations will now be airing. For the latest please see: Exclusive: Generations: The Legacy back on track - new season starts tonight!

-----

Hit the pause button! Forget the timeline of events you've seen in the teasers, they're changing.

It's sudden, it's a jaw dropper and it's definitely happening.

From this Monday, 25 November, Generations: The Legacy will go on hiatus for a month or possibly longer.

It's scary, alarming stuff considering what happened the last time new episodes stopped airing.

Flashback to >> The Generations 16, which changed reality forever. There was Life Before It and Life After.

Of course our immediate reaction upon hearing the news was: "Will it ever be back?!" The new season is supposed to start on Monday (Season 6 of The Legacy) so we were obviously concerned.

We've asked the SABC's Head of PR for TV Channels Zandile Nkonyeni who tells us it will be back.

For the duration of its hiatus, current episodes are going to be replaced by throwback episodes, arranged according to weekly themes e.g. one week will focus on heroes such as Archie Moroka, Kenneth Mashaba, Julia Motene and Glen Majosi.

Another will focus on comic relief featuring Ma Sebobe, Queen Moroka, Sonny, Kenny and Dinny and another will spotlight villains: Ntsiki Lukhele, Andile Nogabu, Kenneth Mashaba and Max.

According to Zandile, the episodes are intended to offer fun, light viewing over the festive season as a tribute to the show's history and will run until just after Christmas or into early new year, depending on audience reactions to them. The show reaches its 26th birthday on 4 February 2020.

The TV ratings are annually lower during the holidays because many people aren't in their usual schedules so they often don't tune in nightly and miss plotlines, which won't happen with re-runs.

Is this You? How do feel about this turn of events? Does it work for you or does it suck?

I just saw on twitter that Isidingo is cancelled. This might mean Gen is next. Oh well it's been a great 25 years. Mfundi should do another show. Maybe on Mzansi Magic. I'm sure he'll enjoy doing something fresh again.Wasn't he supposed to do House Of Phalo anyway? What happened to that?

Hi everyone - we've just spoken to Pomegranate Media who produce Isidingo to ask if it's true that it's been cancelled and they've said they'll be sending an answer later this afternoon

It's interesting is that they didn't deny it.

I'm not understanding the decision making at SABC. If Isidingo is the highest rating show on SABC 3 but it's getting canned, why not just cancel the entire channel and let it be a pop-up or whatever for cricket? Then move Isidingo to one of the other two channels? Maybe 19:30 on sabc 2 I dont get putting people out of work at a whim whilst playing those outdated repeats of American shows like bo Kimora. It may not be millions, but people do watch and love Isidingo. They are invested

@scorpio sana i am with you.. i thnk this SABC AND SAA  same whtsap group,, they want to pay their debts by killing ppl's careers.. or kanjani? theres too much happening there.

I totally agree Scorpio11 - they need to ditch SABC3 once and for all and make it a sports channel, which they so desperately need.

Isidingo could move to 2 and Expresso could be re-imagined and move to SABC1 for the mornings. Afternoon Express could become an SABC2 afternoon show, if they insist on keeping it.

They urgently need to restructure the entire structure of the three channels - the whole set-up's a dated relic of the past that needs a radical overhaul.

What they don't realise qaqamba is that by the time they pay their debts, there won't be a corporation to talk about. At this point I just feel like those making decisions are dumb, out of touch or sabotaging the SABC further Tashi you're right, SABC needs a morning show, Expresso can be it. Never really got those morning education shows, they can be moved to the afternoon and incorporated into YoTV

At this rate SABC may as well just can SABC 3 entirely. I mean if the curtain falls on Isidingo, what will be left of the channel? Especially following the Top Billing fiasco?

I hope the SABC is planning to PAY the actors on all these retro Generations episodes. Oh wait! it wont happen, cause the entire lot got fired for fighting for the same right. Meanwhile the 20:00 slot will be pulling 7+ Million viewers throughout the festive season! sies on SABC!

So we've asked Mfundi Vundla if it's true that the SABC and Morula Pictures haven't signed a contract for Season 29.

According to Sunday's Sunday World, no new episodes will be airing because... surprise-surprise (NOT)... no contracts have been signed for the new season.

Sunday World claims the SABC want the episodes to be shortened by two minutes an episode to accommodate more advertising and Morula Pictures don't want to do this, so they're in a stalemate.

We've asked Mfundi for comment on why the repeats are airing, whether it's true that a contract hasn't been signed (if so, why) - and whether the show will be back.

He's been quiet. Just like Isidingo's Pomegranate Media who've just replied to our question with this:

"At this point, the company has no comment.
We will release a statement in due course
."

Yikes. I wonder if the Generations thing will be solved. Probably, since it's so profitable for the sabc. Isidingo on the other hand could literally have new life if it was moved to another sabc channel but they'd rather cancel it. This is crazy. I'm going to miss it so much.

Same scripts different actors, as for for me I don't give a damn about the legacy whether it's playing or not.

Goku... the Generations script has a new chapter, now we need to wait for Isidingo's.
