As we gear up for 2020, there's one piece of the puzzle that's still missing for January: the deets on SABC2's new Sesotho novela Lithapo, produced by Quizzical Pictures.
All that's about to change right now.
What you need to know:
Series stars: Khojane Morai as Nolo | Lorraine Moropa as Pabi
It premieres in
Giyani's popular 21h30 timeslot on Monday, 13 January 2020 and will also air Mondays to Wednesdays.
At the centre of the action is Nolo, a young man from QwaQwa, played by Khojane Morai in his first starring role on TV.
Lithapo is a Sesotho word meaning The Ties that Bind Us and this is what drives Nolo when he sets out to find his missing father in the city after his mother's sudden death at the hands of cattle thieves.
He leaves QwaQwa and takes off on a journey to find the man he never knew as his father - a successful city slicker who wanted nothing to do with him.
His quest becomes a tale of two cities: Sandton vs. Alex.
He arrives in Alex by taxi and there's mayhem in the streets. Angry residents are protesting the shocking levels of service delivery in the township after the death of a child pushes them to boiling point.
Meanwhile, 'across the road', but a world away in Sandton, lives the Hlongwane family. Their lives are the opposite of his, but their destinies are intertwined.
A love triangle develops when he falls in love with Pabi (played by Lorraine Moropa), a young woman who also becomes involved with the head of the Hlongwane family.
The passions between Pabi and Nolo are thwarted from the start, but when Nolo finds out that everything he believed about his life had been a lie, he must choose between his father and mother, loyalty and love, good and evil - all against the backdrop of a tumultuous country that, like him, is trying to redefine its identity.
Others in the cast include Mangaliso Ngema (Generations,Tshisa, Housekeepers), Sthandiwe Kgoroge (Generations, Yizo Yizo,MTV Shuga), Seputla Sebogodi (Zabalaza, Generations, Diamond City) and Joyce Skefu (Scandal!, Imposter, Abomama).
