Last week we got insight into
Ami Faku's Afro Café set and this week (28 August) the starring mic goes to Kelly Khumalo, who sings a combo of six songs.
She starts the show with a mash-up of four and then sings two standalone ones.
As you probs know, Kelly's revived her reality TV résumé with her reality show Life with Kelly Khumalo, which loaded seven new episodes on Showmax today.
Flashback to>> Rolling with Kelly Khumalo on e.tv in 2012 for her first stint in the genre. The 13-episode season attracted close to 2.2-million viewers for its most watched episode.
Flashforward to now and it's been 17 years since Kelly first rose to fame with a gospel song in 2003. Since then she's released eight albums so she has a huge number of songs to choose from for her Afro Café playlist.
How did she select them?
We caught up with her to ask...
TVSA: Are they your favourites of all time? Are they songs you want to promote from your new album? Why did you choose them?
Kelly: The songs I’ve chosen represent my journey in the industry as well as what inspires me.
TVSA: How did you decide on what to wear?
Kelly: The outfit was inspired by the Arabic culture, with the touch of Kelly Khumalo.
TVSA: You’ve been very famous for a long time. What’s your No. 1 tip for handling fame?
Kelly: Keep your feet on the ground, just wear better shoes.
TVSA: Your reality show includes a focus on your upcoming album. What is the inspiration for it and how would you describe it?
Kelly: The Voice of Africa is inspired by African sounds, African stories, embracing our ancestral heritage and celebrating everything that paints a perfect picture of Africa.
