If you're a tech-loving remote control fiend you'll be curious about DStv's latest addition to the TV landscape.
MultiChoice teased the arrival of their new Explora Ultra a few months ago and it was officially released today (12 November), with a confirmation of the finer details.
Here's a round of bullets to give you a perspective on it:
- It supports regular HD, HDR, 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos surround sound,
- It has built-in Wi-Fi capabilities for streaming and Catch Up,
- It has a redesigned interface, which aims to make navigation easier. Will be interesting to see if it does.
- It has the capacity to integrate various streaming services and launches with Showmax and Netflix. Access to Showmax remains the same as it's always been for DStv subscribers e.g. Premium subscribers get it free, Compacters pay R49 etc. You need to pay for Netflix as you would if you didn't have DStv and can add it your monthly DStv bill. Other third party services are going to be added in future apparently.
- It can record up to 110 hours of programming,
- It includes the Explora's usual capabilities of access to Catch-Up, Box Office and XtraView,
- It's manufactured in South Africa,
- The body/enclosure is made of 100% recycled materials and the packaging has no single-use plastics,
- A new remote control is being released with it too.
- The recommended retail price: R2,499 for the decoder and R3,699 with installation.
They go sale in shops and on
DStv's website from next week (16 November).
