A new kykNET reality show is on a quest to rescue South African eateries in trouble.
It's titled In die Sop: Restaurant Evolusie (In the soup: Restaurant Evolution) and it's based on the same concept as the Food Network series Restaurant Impossible.
In a nutshell: a successful restauranteur and chef steps in to assist restaurants that are in trouble and on the brink of shutting down.
Restauranteur Bertus Basson headlines our version, with a team of assistants.
Bertus sharpened his knives at the Michelin awarded Chez Bruce in London at the start of his career and now he owns five restaurants in and around Stellenbosch.
The series is looking to assist a total of 10 restaurants.
Who should apply?
This from the show:
The restaurant industry is one of the industries that has taken the biggest knock over the past year.
But should the pandemic and economy take all the blame for restaurants’ problems? Could bad service, outdated menus, and uninspiring decor not be blamed in some cases?
Owners might think hard work is enough, but sometimes, something is missing that even they can’t see, which is preventing them from making enough profit.
If you are an owner of a restaurant - whether it’s a food truck, fine dining, or family restaurant – and down on your knees, don’t be despaired, because we have good news.
