A History of the Future

We examine the past to understand the present. But history can serve much more - it can help us anticipate what will happen in the future.

History of the Future is a journey through time and space to discover the future of the great challenges of the present: the climate, work, democracy and globalisation.

How were the environmental challenges of the past overcome?

Will robots be the employees of the future?

Could we become governed by supercomputers with artificial intelligence?

Where will globalisation take us?

The One

Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 10h00 (all episodes)
Genre: Drama

The One

Love — and lies — spiral when a DNA researcher helps discover a way to find the perfect partner, and creates a bold new matchmaking service.

Based on a book by John Marrs, this relationship drama tackles a unique premise: What if we could find our perfect partner through DNA matching?

The One is set five minutes in the future, in a world where a DNA test can find your perfect partner – the one person you're genetically predisposed to fall passionately in love with.

No matter how good your relationship, which one of us can honestly say we haven't thought about whether there is someone better out there?

What if a hair sample is all it takes to find them? The idea is simple, but the implications are explosive.

We will never think of love and relationships in the same way again.

Point of Order 2

Channel: SABC2
TX Time: 19h30
Genre: Game Show, Comedy

Point of Order 2

When parliament becomes comedy, this show turns comedy into parliament.

Point of Order is an original, weekly panel show hosted by Madam Speaker Tumi Morake.

This is where top comedians pretend they're politicians and show off their knowledge of national and world affairs – or lack thereof.

Point of Order is a TV show set in a mock parliament where local comedians become "Government" and "Opposition" and face off against each other in a series of rounds, each designed to test the knowledge, wit and quick thinking ability.

Presiding over it all is Madam Speaker, gavel in hand, ready to keep order, and possibly even recognise people.

The show allows for SA's top comedians to introduce important and vital new laws, like there must be a compulsory quota of 90% local content when singing in the shower..

It also gives special guests a chance to talk... well politics, almost like real MPs do – perhaps only a little more intelligibly.

This isn't fast paced stand up; this is a more off the cuff atmosphere as the comedians don't know what's coming next.

The Valley: Hunting Egypt's Lost Treasures

Channel: National Geographic Channel (DStv 181 / StarSat 220)
TX Time: 19h00
Genre: Documentary Series, History

The Valley: Hunting Egypt's Lost Treasures

An immersive, action-packed and discovery-led series following international teams of Egyptologists as they unearth the world's richest seam of ancient archaeology - Egypt's Valley of the Kings.

For a full season of excavations and with unprecedented access to the teams on the front line of archaeology, we follow these modern day explorers as they battle searing heat and inhospitable terrain to make the discoveries of a lifetime.

Using innovative technology and age-old intuition in their quest to uncover the secrets of these ancient sites, can the team's discoveries re-write ancient history?

In the series premiere, "Tutankhamun's Treasures": In this episode, archaeologists unlock the mysteries of Egypt's most famous pharaoh, Tutankhamun.

We unearth a long lost box of treasures from inside Tutankhamun's tomb.

New technology reveals why this boy king's resting place remained hidden from tomb robbers for thousands of years and we join the team who are tasked with transporting Tutankhamun's priceless treasures, on a one in a lifetime journey through the desert.

Meanwhile, a team of archaeologists make a new discovery of a lifetime when they open a 4,000-year-old tomb.

My 600-lb Life 9

Channel: TLC Entertainment (DStv 135)
TX Time: 20h00
Genre: Docu-Reality

My 600-lb Life 9

Losing weight is a struggle for many, but for some, it's a matter of life or death.

This series follows the lives of people weighing over 600 pounds (270kg) as they embark on an incredible weight-loss journey to try and turn their lives around forever.

Each episode follows the story a different individual as they undergo a dangerous gastric bypass surgery and life-altering dietary changes with hopes of losing hundreds of pounds.

It's a huge undertaking as they each deal with addiction, dependence and helplessness, in the hope of finally achieving victory, pride and freedom from the prison that is their bodies.

In the Season 9 premiere, "Samantha's Story": At nearly 1,000 pounds, Samantha is dangerously close to dying.

To make matters worse, she's paid to eat by making videos online.

If Samantha doesn't overcome her toxic relationship with food, she worries that she will leave her daughter motherless.

Paradise PD: Part 3

Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 10h00 (all episodes)
Genre: Animation, Comedy

Paradise PD: Part 3

They're bad cops. Not bad like no nonsense. Not bad like cool. Bad like shitty.

Paradise PD: They're the worst responders.

From the creators of Brickleberry, Roger Black and Waco O'Guin, comes this adult animated comedy about a backwater Southern-fried, small-town police department.

In the first season, an eager young rookie joins the ragtag small-town police force led by his dad as they bumble, squabble and snort their way through a big drug case.

In Season 2, as the diabolical Kingpin tightened his grip on Paradise, the squad contended with bitter feuds, dirty schemes, kinky fetishes and a nuclear threat.
