Orphans of a Nation is a Brazilian love story about refugees and immigrants who've fled their homelands for various reasons. Some have resettled for economic reasons or because of natural disasters while others have escaped political or religious persecution.
The main storyline centres round Laila (Julia Dalavia) and Jamil (Renato Góes) who escape from Lebanon to Brazil where they try to live the love that united them while they were still in the Middle East.
She's a Syrian refugee and he's an employee of the powerful Sheik Aziz Abdallah (Herson Capri), who forcedly took Laila as one of his wives when her and her family fled from Syria to Lebanon.
Laila and Jamil have fled to safety but they still aren't safe because the Sheikh's daughter Dalila (Alice Wegmann) follows them to Brazil, intent on revenge after her father's mysterious death.
