DStv's going to sap more life out of Big Brother Mzansi 3 this Friday (29 April) with a spin-off talk show titled Ses'Fikile.
It's suddenly happened - only confirmed today - and it's going to air at 21h30, on Mzansi Wethu instead of Mzansi Magic, making it a case of "Wethu from here?", the crux of the show.
The good
It's giving the housemates added exposure after Big Brother banged on and
on about what a big opportunity the production was for those who were on it.
This despite the fact that they weren't even the stars of their own Sunday night live shows.
But wait... that's bad, not good. What's good about this? It's hosted by former-former housemate Sol Phenduka, who's at least getting a chance to capitalise on his Big Brother pedigree.
But they're not trusting him alone, oh no, he's co-hosting with MacG, the self-professed podcaster who
actually makes YouTube videos.
They'll be talking to the housemates about their experience on the show, what's happening now outside the house, and what they believe the future holds for themselves.
The bad
The fact that it's a talk show. Meh. It's described as "no holds barred" but what does that mean? It would be much better if we actually stepped into their real world lives to see their post show reality in a dynamic edit of footage of their experiences.
This could include intimate diary room-type monologues to the camera, late at night, at the end of a day.
With a talk show they can spin us all us all sorts of hyped up impressions about where they're "at" right now but if the show stepped into their lives we'd know a lot more. If it was authentic and
not reality scripted, which wouldn't happen anyway.
Current reality shows refuse to get edgy and truly real, preferring a marketed portrayal of people instead of the people themselves.
Reality low
Only seven undisclosed housemates are going to be on it.
Don't ask us why, we just work here.
