Sevda Erginci as Ipek, Özge Özacar as Azra and Melis Sezen as Deren
eExtra's latest telenovela Sisterhood has three key elements to note:
1. It's airing on Saturdays - a first for the channel, which sometimes airs telenovela omnibuses but not first run episodes. It premieres on 3 September at 20h00 for double bill episodes.
2. It hasn't been dubbed into Afrikaans nor English but retains its original Turkish soundtrack with English subtitles.
3. It's about three sisters, who are actually four "sisters", who grew up believing they were alone.
This is what to expect:
Beautiful Ipek lives in Murefte, famous for its vineyards. Her father used to be a successful businessman but starts losing ground to an upstart entrepreneur, Tekin, who Ipek ultimately starts to work for - and soon grows close to.
When her father dies, Ipek decides to marry Tekin. Although she tries to convince herself that she is in love with the much older man, deep down she is really just going through with the marriage to get back what she once lost...
During her wedding dress-rehearsal, Ipek receives a letter saying that she is adopted and has two sisters, with their names and addresses attached to the back of the letter.
Ipek is shocked, but when she confronts her mother, she realises that it’s real and decides to contact her sisters to invite them to the wedding.
Deren, who recently graduated from med school, and lives in one of the richest districts of Istanbul, receives the letter while working in the hospital owned by her family.
At first she doesn’t believe it, she thinks someone’s trying to steal her money. But when she tells her family, she faces an unexpected reaction.
They decide it’s time to confess and tell the truth; she’s adopted. So Deren decides to go to the wedding.
The letter also goes to Çilem’s home, but it doesn’t reach her. Her roommate Azra, who is in serious trouble again - she always is - receives the letter and doesn’t hesitate to consider it a good opportunity to escape.
While Ipek continues her wedding preparations, Deren and “Çilem” come to Eskiyaka and the sisters meet for the first time.
Ipek asks them not to tell anyone that they are related yet, eager to avoid any unnecessary drama.
Sevda Erginci as Ipek and Yurdaer Okur as Tekin
Tekin meets Deren and Çilem, coming across as rough, almost rude. He’s jealous, insecure and even violent towards Ipek, and always seems to be hiding something; he never talks about his son from his first marriage, and he hasn’t even introduced him to Ipek.
Seçkin Özdemir as Sinan
She decides to find Tekin’s son, Sinan, and invites him to the wedding. But she gets an unexpected reaction from Sinan: his father is dead to him.
He can’t forget what he did to his mother, and has always felt guilty about not being able to protect her. He’s shocked to hear that Tekin is getting married again: someone else will have to live this nightmare again.
He is left with no option but to go to Eskiyaka.
Tekin’s jealousy increases by the time the wedding comes. He suspects that Ipek is hiding something from him.
Every look, every friendly attitude towards his young, beautiful wife-to-be angers him.
The wedding ends with Tekin making a scene and Ipek having to control him. As Deren and Çilem leave, they make Ipek promise: If Tekin does anything to her, she will call them immediately.
Tekin attacks Ipek that night, so she desperately calls her sisters.
In a desperate scuffle, Çilem strikes a fatal blow to Tekin’s head.
Suddenly, in the course of a couple of days these three women have gone from not knowing of each other’s existence, to being at the centre of a murder cover up together.
The door knocks while they are deciding what to do: Sinan has arrived.
These three women - a vineyard boss, a doctor, and a fraud - now have to keep a common secret and live together; but someone knows their secret and is after them...
How will they stay safe with this dark secret? What will happen to the good doctor Deren when she falls in love with local thug Kenan?
And whatever happened to the real Çilem?
