Imbewu's seed better days
Imbewu's seed scatters after Season 5
Imbewu seeds to The Black Door
We could go on but we won't torture you, lol.
All this and Imbewu isn't even subtitled The Seed anymore. As you may recall, that disappeared in 2020 when the show did away with it for Season 3.
At the time we spoke to e.tv's Managing Director Marlon Davids who explained why:
“The core of the original storyline as to who the true seed of Ngcolosi’s children is has been revealed, and new storylines have since been developed. Our viewers also now know that ‘Imbewu’ means ‘The Seed’, therefore rending it superfluous.”
Flashforward three years and e.tv has announced that the Grapevine-produced series will end after Season 5 in April 2023.
There's no word on why so we can only assume that it isn't worth it for eMedia anymore.
It's been pushed around so much it isn't surprising. It was literally knocked off its perch when it lost its signature 21h30 spot in April last year when The Black Door replaced it.
It used to regularly attract between 3.5 and over 4-million viewers at 21h30 but it's been loafing in the 2-millions since its move. If you follow the
TAMS you'll have read all about it.
Is it time for it to end or should it have moved back to 21h30 for Season 6?
It's being replaced by a new undisclosed show, which hopefully won't be yet another polygamy series. Enough already!
Unless it gives us a different perspective, e.g. a woman who has more than one lover.
It would work at 21h00.
Imbewu joins Mzansi Magic's The Queen and e.tv's Durban Gen on the list of primetime 2023 cancellations. The Queen wrapped in January and Durban Gen ends in April. There's no word on what's what with The Black Door. Season 1 finishes in April too so a confirm will need to happen soon.
And now... take a moment to think back over the five seasons of Imbewu and do like TVSA member
