Coming up on
Diepe Waters on Wednesday 17 July 2024:
Amor Vittone as Leticia, a lonely woman who stirs up the lives of Sanet and Ben.
In a nutshell: she's single, ready to mingle and flirty. Amen.
Here's a Q&A with Amor about her:
Tell us more about Leticia.
Amor: Leticia is the mother of two daughters, but they are at university, and she has a void in her life. She has lost two men and feels like she is searching for a place to belong.
She moved to Johannesburg and joined the church, and that’s how she met Sanet. All Leticia is looking for in her life is love.
She is fragile and doesn’t seek attention, but when she gets it, she can be overwhelming. She shows her emotions and cries when she feels like it.
Leticia doesn’t have a nasty side to her and will quickly apologise when she thinks she’s done something wrong in somebody else’ eyes. She is soft and kind but can sometimes cross the line and be a tad too friendly.
What did you enjoy most about the character?
Amor: The fact that she is very different from Zelda, whom I played in 7de Laan. Leticia is fragile, and I enjoyed delving deeper to get to the heart of the character.
It’s also a pleasure to act opposite people who know their craft. Nadia Valvekens (Sanet) and Eric Bouwer (Ben) are brilliant, and it’s nice to feed off that energy when you’re in front of the camera.
I also enjoyed the telenovela format because everything doesn’t always take place in a studio.
Leticia struggles with loneliness. What is your advice to anyone also dealing with it?
Amor: It’s important to talk about your feelings. When I talk about something that bothers me, usually with my mom, sisters, or friends, it definitely helps. Ask for help if you need it.
And with loneliness, sometimes it’s that you’re not doing enough for yourself. Go have lunch with friends, go for a walk, get your nails done.
I think a change of scenery and environment is also important - something simple like buying a plant or rearranging your furniture. Join a club like Leticia, who joined Nuwe Nes, and meet new people.
What is the biggest life lesson you’ve learned?
Amor: Don’t react to something in the moment when you might say something that can be misunderstood or that you’ll regret. Think about it first and then react. Sometimes it’s even necessary to just stay silent.
Also, don’t criticise yourself too much. Life goes by in a flash. Appreciate every moment of every day. Laugh when you need to laugh and cry when you need to cry.
What do you think makes a good flirt? Do you have your own secrets when it comes to flirting?
Amor: Flirting is one of those words that can easily be misused. The type of flirting that Leticia does, is not overbearing.
She knows she is beautiful, even in her 50s with a few wrinkles, and she knows she has attractive breasts which she likes to show, but she does it tastefully.
I don’t really have secrets around flirting. If the butterflies in your stomach or your heart awaken, it’s as if you have a bit more confidence to say and do things you might not say and do under normal circumstances.
Maybe I flirted when I was younger. These days I’m more spontaneous.

So what's your flirting secret?
Ours: Give a compliment on something that grabs your fancy - whether you want to hook-up or not. Flirt with everyone.
